I was wondering if any of you ladies know if there is a way to make:
air-popped popcorn without a machine.
I love it, and hate spending the extra money on the microwave ones.
I heared you can use a brown paper bag and do your own "microwave"
bag.
but i'm kind of scared...
can anyone give me any advice?

I have never tried it in the microwave in a paper bag either. But my microwave is not the best, so I would be scared of it blowing up. I do our popcorn in my electric skillet-got that trick from my mil. It works great and comes out really good. It does take a few tries to get it right. You have to have an electric skillet with a high platic lid on it not a glass lid. I think that all the ones that they make now of have the low glass lid.
I too am interested in seeing how else popcorn can be made.

If Alton Brown says it can be done...I'm sure it can Plain Brown Popper Recipe: Recipes: Food Network
You could do whatever seasoning you like or none at all....and I would probably skip the stapler and just fold the bag over.

I have done popcorn in a brown lunch bake many times. It's very simple, just like the prepackaged microwave bags. Open your bag put enough kernels in the bottom of the bag to just make a single layer. Fold the top of the bag closed, about two times. I set mine for 5 min. but stop it when the pops slow down. pour in bowl. Don't forget to melt your butter before you pop your corn so it cools off a little before you pour it on top, or the popcorn will wither.

the chip clips that pampered chef make work good.. I also use these to hold tea bags together when making tea in the microwave.

Off topic here a bit but I did pay $1.00 for my airpopper through a 2nd hand store! Works great! And with microwave popcorn becoming the norm for so many, I know that a lot of people are donating theirs.

I got a hot air popper as a shower gift 17 years ago - and it still works great (just made some today actually!). I try and stay away from the microwave.
