OK, so our family either eats oatmeal (maple syrup & brown sugar OR apples & cinnamon) or Oatmeal to Go Bars (MS&BS OR A&C OR Banana...) - we eat this every morning!

SO, this gets pretty expensive buying the individual packages... does anyone have a good recipe for making your own oatmeal or oatmeal bars from scratch? I know I found one once and it consisted of buying regular oatmeal and blending half of it into dust and then mixing it with the bigger pieces. Plus it had little extras to add to make the different flavors... (something like this...)

If I could make my own oatmeal and oatmeal bars I'm betting I could save a ton of money. Does anyone make their own? Do you all have a recipe?? Anyone switch to this? Do you know how much money you've saved???

I'd also like to make some Fiber One Chocolate Chip bars or regular Chocolate Chip Granola bars... anyone do this? Any good recipies????

Is all this making from scratch worth the effort or does it not save enough to make it worth while??

THANKS!!!

I think that Hillbilly housewife might have some homemade instant oatmeal recipes. I will pull out my recipes if you can't find it there.

We eat oatmeal everyday too!

Ah, Thanks Jared&Maggie'smom, yes the Hillbilly housewife... after I posted this I started wondering if that was where I've seen it! I'll have to get back out there and check! Do you guys eat the little individual packets too? DH will eat 2 a morning, I eat 2 a morning, and both our 2 and 4 year old will eat 1 if not 2. If not oatmeal the boys will generally eat those bars... there's GOT to be a cheaper way!

Thanks for the website araefinn, I don't know what my family will eat other than the instant stuff - that's all they've tried. DH is pretty picky, but my boys will generally eat anything! I might have to try a couple of these recipes...

THANKS!!! Now if I can find a way to make the breakfast bars!
