Favorite Vegetable? whatever is in season that I can get fresh(we love veggies)
Favorite Dessert? my Mom makes me a wicked White Chocolate and Lime Cheesecake
for my birthday!!(but I like alot of desserts...warm brownies are sure hard to beat when
its snowing outside)
If I had to eat the same thing for the rest of my life it would be: something Mexican
Weirdest thing you ever ate? Rattlesnake(no it does NOT taste like chicken)
I didn't think I'd like ____, but I did! Sushi
Baking or Cooking? Cooking,Baking and Grilling!!!
I seem to always add this ingredient: Garlic and Onions in every variety.
Kitchen Gadget/Utensil/Appliance I couldn’t live without: I have a ton of gadgets etc...
and love each of them during diff seasons.
I enjoy being in the kitchen because: it's my own space and it's relaxing...some people read, some scrapbook, some sew...I cook.
If my kitchen could talk it would say “this” ..."Brace yourself!! Here she comes again!!!"
I learned everything I know about cooking from: My Mom,my 2 Grandmothers and my Great Aunt.
What I try to teach my kids about cooking: That it's fun and that it's the best way to get people together.
Funniest cooking story: My families favorite story that my Mom will never let me live down was when I was younger...this was even pre-oven using days,I made this frozen coctail dessert thing one summer and it was terrible....if you can even imagine....it was like eating a frozen pork rind...it did this weird thing on your tongue...eeewwww.
My family LOVES it when I cook this: Everyone seems to have a different favorite here....but with Easter coming everyone is looking forward to my deviled eggs!!!(My Mom who doesn't even like deviled eggs was the first one to mention them)
Family Favorite Recipe:
This is our favorite Ham and Potato Soup we make with leftover Easter Ham
3 1/2 c peeled and diced potatoes
1/3 c diced celery
1/3 c chopped or grated carrot
1/3 c finely minced onion
3/4 c diced cooked ham
3 1/4 c water
2 Tbs chicken bouillon granules
1/2 c shredded cheese(cheddar or whatever you like)
1/2 tsp salt(more or less is fine)
1 tsp pepper
5 Tbs butter
5 Tbs flour
2 c milk
Mix potatoes, celery, onion, ham, carrot and water in a stockpot. Bring to a boil, then cook
over medium heat til potatoes are tender,10-15 min.Stir in the chicken bouillon, salt and pepper.
Melt butter over medium-low heat. Whisk in flour with a fork, and cook, stirring constantly
til thick, about 1 minute. Slowly stir in milk as not to allow lumps to form
til all of the milk has been added. Continue stirring over med-low heat til thick, 4 to 5
min.Stir the milk mix into the stockpot, and cook soup til heated through. Serve immediately
topped with some shredded cheese.
**Disclaimer**
MS Dish of the week is a fun way for us to get to know the Mommysavers members. Newbies to the board as well as regulars are welcome to participate. The Dish of the week is randomly selected a week in advance of her being featured. This is done so you can be contacted, informed of your feature date, and arrange to send a picture along with the included survey. Having a picture included is so we can make it a little more personal and put a name to a face. This is optional of course, as are all the questions being asked. If the survey is not received back from you before your “feature” date, the next member will be randomly selected and we will come back to you the following week. If you would like to participate please PM Kellynkay or Ryans_mom10 and we will get you signed up.
