It seems that I'm in the minority here. Most people I know get a "store bought" cake for birthdays. If they do make it, they use a cake mix. I prefer to make my own cake. It is fresher and doesn't have all that added stuff. My MIL thinks I'm insane for never using any mixes or helpers. What is your preference?

I always let ther kids pick out which cake mix they want and help them make it and they decorate it. They have a lot of fun decorating.

It all depends on if I feel like making it I made noahs birthday cake for his 1st birthday. I think homemade is better than store bought. Exspecially funfetti.

I usually buy it for the kids and make one with a mix for the hubby or myself.

I knocked myself out one year for my mom's birthday. I made a checkerboard cake all from scratch and no one liked it. Since then I've either bought the cake or used a mix. I guess it has a lot to do with what you grew up on. My mom never made cakes from scratch so we've always been used to a mix.

Always store bought....either cake or cupcakes. I switched to cupcakes a couple years ago because the kids take two bites of cake and toss it. I was so upset about the waste that i started getting cupcakes.

I make them out of a box. I let my family pick out the cake flavor and the frosting that they like.

I use boxed cake!! my kids would rather me make a cake!!
and Id make it from scratch but to be honest!! imnot a good cool!! so it would be a bust and gross if I did it any other way!! LOL!!!

Id love to make one from scratch tho!!
I also want to take a cake decor class at Michaels!!

When it comes to baking - I'm a disaster waiting to happen. For a birthday or special occassion, I always play it safe with store bought!
