I do not personally care for them, except in hummus tahini. Have you ever had hummus? Chickpeas are the main ingredient. When I was little I liked them dried & salted - very crispy nut. Otherwise I normally see them in greek salads and probably in various vegetarian recipes.

I like Chickpeas (but have always called them garbanzo beans). I don't think they have much of a taste on their own more just a texture. Hummus is GOOD and I also eat them on salad if a restaurant has them on their salad bar.

This is how I use them. I really like them. They give a really good texture to salad. I have never cooked them. And have never had humus.

You can also drain and rinse a can, throw them into a baking dish sprayed with pam and season them with salt and pepper, or maybe some lemon juice and onion, or italian salad dressing, or a few spoons of sofrito, then bake them for a few minutes (I'm guessing here: about 20 minutes on 350). They taste good warm and it increases their nutty flavor. We do this as a side dish sometimes, or dump them like this over rice.

Also hummus without the tahini: chickpeas, lemon juice, s/p to taste, a drop of olive oil, blended together. Great on crackers. My kids love it.

Please don't feel weird but I Love You. I LOVE GARBANZO BEANS. I usually have mine cold in salads. I also eat them alone. I do prefer them warmed if I eat them alone. I normally would just heat them up in a sauce pan on the stove in thier own juice if you use canned beans. I am salivating just thinking about lunch tomorrow as I make some of littlelizzard's versions. BTW- I have never had tahini. forgot to add you can eat the skin that is on them or just peel it off. I do both.

i LOVE chickpeas( dd adores them)...
i make a bean dish with them in it ( the males will not eat it as NO meat but dd and i do)

1- 14oz can lentils drained
1-19oz can chickpeas drained
1-14oz can kidney beans drained
1 1/2 cups chopped onion
3 cloves garlic peeled and chopped ( i use more but the recipe says 3)
2 tsp.oil
2 tbsp. flour
1-7oz can tomato sauce
1/2 cup ketchup
1/4 cup brown sugar
2 tbsp.white vinegar
1/2-3/4 tsp HOT pepper sauce

mix all three beans in casserole dish...cook onions and garlic in oil and mix in flour...add tomato sauce and stir until boiling and thick...add ketchup, brown sugar, vinegar and hot sauce.
misx it well and pour over beans and mix well again.
bake at 350 degrees for 45 minutes

its is great and does not cost a lot...dd eats two helpings of it when i make it....i think i might make it this weekend now that i am thinking about how good it tastes.
