We went to an apple orchard today to pick apples. We ended up with almost 50 pounds of apples . My MIL & some of her friends from England were here & went with us, and I thought one of the 3 bags that we were picking was going to be for them, but they only wanted the one they picked, so we took all 3. I'm going to end up freezing a lot, and making a lot of applesauce. It's a good thing we like apples (although we may get sick of them after all this)!

Oh my goodness!! We were going to go to the orchard tomorrow but it's going to rain and I just found out they have wagon rides out to the orchard staring next weekend so that will be better for my ds. I don't have a freezer yet. So I hope we don't over pick. What all are you going to do with your apples?

I would be making some apple pies, apple cake, apple sauce, and lots of baked apples with yogurt sauce.

HERE IS A GREAT DISH.....my dh loves this and so do the girls...

peel and slice a bunch of apples to cover the bottom of a baking dish...I put alot in mine...since we love it....lol
sprinkle cinnamin on top of the apples...I sprinkle a lot...lol
can or 2 of cresent rolls....depending on how big your pan is....just unroll and lay them on top of the apples.
boil a cup of sugar, stick of butter, cup of sprite or 7up...boil as long as it takes to get the sugar dissolved.POUR THIS OVER THE WHOLE DISH.
sprinkle more cin. on top of all this if you like...I do..lol...
then you just bake it til the cresent rolls are nice and done and you can top it off with cool whip or ice cream.....

THIS IS SOOOOOOOOOO DELICIOUS!

I made a big batch of applesauce and an apple crisp last night. I think I'll cut some up to freeze tonight. I'm going to do apple muffins sometime this week (maybe as Quentin's preschool treat on Thursday), and maybe caramel apples. I have lots of apple recipes, so we'll be trying some new stuff!

What kind of apples did you pick? I called the orchard today and they have pyo red and golden delicous right now. Are they good in pies? Since they aren't tart.

We picked Jonathan & Cortland (they're both good for baking & eating). I also got a small bag of Haralson because I hadn't tried them before (they're very tart!) and a small bag of Honeycrisp just for eating. This orchard had a lot of varieties to choose from, and we probably would have picked a bigger variety, but it was starting to rain & the mosquitos were awful, so we picked as fast as we could & left! For anyone near Madison, WI, this is where we went.

This was my 1st stop...I haven't done any research yet. Do you have to do anything special to the apples before freezing them??
