We've removed HFCS from our diet, except for the occasional treat that sneaks in It is in EVERYTHING, so be prepared to shop very differently. Read the ingredient list all the way, sometimes it is listed toward the bottom. Once you have done this for awhile, you learn which brands use it and which don't. This makes taking advantage of sales and coupons more difficult, so I just buy much less, the minimum of what I need and try to make what I can at home. (cookies, muffins, breakfast bars, pasta sauce, I'm even considering getting a breadmaker and doing my own bread, most of the "healthy" breads list HFCS, ugh!) I buy LOTS of produce and cook most meals from very basic ingredients, it's easier to keep track of what I am using. and cheaper once you get a good system down.
If you have a Trader Joe's near you, they are GREAT! I can pretty much get everything, including cereal bars, bread, pasta sauce, ketchup and bbq sauce without HFCS. You still need to read labels, but in general their products do not have HFCS or hydrogenated oils. TJ's is also much cheaper than a store like Whole Foods, so it fits my budget (which is super tight!)
