Ladies, I just had my daughters first year appointment and found out she had slightly low iron. Has anyone's child had this issue? And if so, what did you do about it? I think hers might be caused by too much milk, so I'm cutting down and also looking for some suggestions. She has tons of energy, eats a balanced diet and is thriving so I was surprised to learn about her condition. I would love to hear from other moms and their experiences. Did you feed your child anything special?

Thank you in advance.

I think spinach is high in iron. I sneak it in lasagna and underneath cheese in pizza. They never notice.

I get most of my iron from spinach because we eat a lot of it, and I don't eat very much red meat. But my daughter (13 mo) won't/can't eat it! I give her raisins and fortified cereal.

With the milk, the problem is that calcium interferes with iron absorption. Just make sure when you're giving her an iron rich food that she doesn't have milk with it. She can have her milk separately at another time.

molasses is a great iron booster! maybe make molasses cookies, or just straight off the spoon like I do it!
