Thanks for your support M2M!!! I didn't think about using the funnel with the water bottles. Great idea!!!

I'm grateful for this challenge as I am starting to think about what my pitfalls are. I typically don't buy the Wyler's stuff. I primarly bought it because it was "4.97". At Costco, the price on those items that they are clearancing ends in a "7". I see a "7" and think SALE and lose my self-restraint.

I think that's what's happening with my grocery store shopping.

I was a big coupon shopper 7-8 years ago. I did multiple trips a week, dragging my DD with me. At that time, they would double 3 like coupons, so I really stocked up. Policies changed and the stores would no longer double 3 coupons, but restricted it to 1.

I said forget it and started back to strictly Costco shopping. Well, if you shop Costco (or Sams), you know that it's hard to get out of there without spending $$$$. Two trips a month and we were spending $500-$600 a month, which I thought was too much at the time.

I just recently went back to coupon shopping. With up to $1 doubled, I can get some things cheap or free. Add on the promos, and I go crazy. I can get out of the store with a cart full for $50 or less.

Well, now I'm back to multiple trips per week. Those $50 trips add up, so as you see, I'm up to spending ~ $750 a month!!!

Seeing this during the challenge and realizing what I'm doing, I'm almost considering going back to shopping Costco 2 times a month. I figure I may be able to stay at $500, which is what we were doing before, and that's what my monthly budget is!!!! I just need to stay away from the junky snacks!!

Plus, I'm there filling up my car anyway since they have the cheapest gas!!

We also have a Smart-n-Final a block away (within walking distance), so we can go there and pick up some produce if we need it.

Sorry for being long-winded, but I thought I'd share what' been my pitfall and maybe someone else out there is going through the same thing.

I initially was going to do this strictly in the kitchen chat section...(which is where I moderate anyway).....I just kinda let this go here since their was a fair amount of folks using it.....next week however will be strictly in the kitchen chat

I have posted this message in both sections for a heads up for next week...we'll condense it down to 1 thread.

$0

I'm stocked up on all sorts of food when using thegrocerygame.com and I bought two gallons of milk last week so we ate out of what we have.

I spent $5 on a giant bag of pretzels at World Market. So I am still within the $50 budget. I am really looking forward to doing this the next couple of weeks. IT would be awesome to only spend ~200 a month on groceries. Right now I budget $500.

My budget right now is $500 a month, I would love to get it down to $200 a month, however with 6 of us I'm not sure that's possible. I'm going to aim as best I can. If I can get it down to $300 a month I'll be in heaven.

Good luck!!
Family of 6 here as well. 3 teens, a baby, and Me and DH... We need advice on how to feed these kids better, we dont buy any junk but still end up spending $150-190 at the store every week. We make weekly menus also. I'd LOVE to show DH that I can get the spending under control.
Any pm's are welcome!
Thanks!
