Name: Melissa

Family: DH: Nick, DD: ALexis (22 months), DD#2 due in August

State: Indiana

Favorite Drink? Tea or cappuccino

Favorite Vegetable? corn on the cob

Favorite Dessert? home-made ice cream, or store bought cookie dough ice cream

Favorite comfort meal? home-made noodles and mashed potatoes

If I had to eat the same thing for the rest of my life it would be: not sure, I think I would get tired of most anything eventually!

Weirdest thing you ever ate? cracker and pickle sandwiches, I had a friend that loved these, they were interesting!

I didn't think I'd like, but I did!! Rabbit meat, I was tricked into eating it and it actually wasn't that bad

Baking or Cooking? baking

I seem to always add this ingredient: onion, seasoned salt and or chili powder

Kitchen Gadget/Utensil/Appliance I couldn’t live without: microwave

I enjoy being in the kitchen because: I like to cook for my family and I like to try new recipes

If my kitchen could talk it would say “this” about me: I am a MESS...AGAIN!!

I learned everything I know about cooking from:my mom! She taught us so much about everything in life!!

What I try to teach my kids about cooking: everything my mom taught me! Have your own garden and eat at home!

Funniest cooking story: It wasn't funny at the time, but when I was first pregnant with my first daughter, I had this really hard, hormonal week, I hit the garage with the car and a few other things, but I also tried to make fudge, well it boiled over and of course the sugar was quickly burning onto my fairly new smooth top stove, well, in a panic I grabbed a knife and started scraping it off, needless to say, we had to go buy a new stove. Thankfully Dh was so excited about the baby that he didn't even get too upset about the week and everything that happened.

My family LOVES it when I cook this:
my dd won't eat meat, so she likes my home-made noodles, mashed potatoes and a veggie.
DH loves steak, so I like to make him different kinds, one favorite is country fried steak with gravy, mashed potatoes, a veggie and a roll or home-made bread.

Family Favorite Recipe:

home-made noodles
2 cups flour (can use whole wheat)
1/2 tsp salt
2 large eggs
1/4 c water
1 Tblsp vegetable or olive oil

mix flour and salt, make a well in center and add eggs, water and oil. mix together with dough hooks on mixer. if too dry add drops of water, if too sticky can add flour.

gather into a ball, knead on surface for 5 minutes or til smooth and elastic.

divide into 4 equal parts and roll each part out on floured surface with a rolling pin to paper thin or as thin as your family likes. cut into 1/4 inch strips with a knife or run through a noodle cutter. Lay out on towels to dry-up to 24 hrs. Break into pieces and freeze in a zip-lock baggie. Just remove the amount you need and cook in chicken broth, can add turkey or chicken if your family likes it!
I usually make several batches to have the freezer stocked when I make this!

country fried steak with cream gravy
1-1/2 lbs round steak or cube steak thawed
1 egg beaten
1 Tblsp milk
1/4 c flour (or can use crushed saltines)
2 tbls oil
country gravy or whatever kind your family likes

cut beef into 6 strips. Mix egg and milk together, dip beef into egg mixture then coat with four (or saltines). Heat oil in a 12-inch skillet, cook til brown on both sides and cooked through. Remove and keep warm.
add gravy to skillet, stirring to loosen browned bits, heat through. serve over steak.

Great getting to know you better! Both your recipes sound great. I already added them to my recipe file, I've been wanting to make chicken fried steak, but always thought it was really complicated, your recipe sounds perfect.
