I am sooo excited for you all to get to meet one of our newer members .............Momof1boy

Thank you so much for introducing yourself and a BIG Mommysaver W~E~L~C~O~M~E to you from the Kitchen gang

Family: I am wife to wonderful husband and a mom to a dear son.

State: Alabama

Favorite Drink? cafe mocha or sweet tea

Favorite Vegetable? corn

Favorite Dessert? cheesecake or homemade ice cream

Favorite comfort meal?homemade mac & cheese with chicken casserole

If I had to eat the same thing for the rest of my life it would be: mac & cheese

Weirdest thing you ever ate? gator tail

I didn't think I'd like,but I did!!

Baking or Cooking? cooking is my favorite, but I do enjoy doing some baking

I seem to always add this ingredient: lemon pepper

Kitchen Gadget/Utensil/Appliance I couldn’t live without:

I enjoy being in the kitchen because: it is my escape! I feel like I am in control and I can escape to my own little world.

If my kitchen could talk it would say “this” about me: she's doing too many things at once!

I learned everything I know about cooking from: my grandmother and a dear friend's mom...my mom does cook, just in the same way!

What I try to teach my kids about cooking:
it's fun...not work!

Funniest cooking story:
It wasn't funny then, but my first holiday turkey was placed in the oven around 11 p.m. and it was going to cook slow over night. Unfortunately, we awoke to flames in the kitchen.....the broth/grease had flowed over my pan and caught on fire. My husband was trying to put this fire out and I was worried about the turkey because I knew I couldn't find another one on Christmas morning. I was expecting around 20 guests for lunch!! OH NO! However, it was the most delicious turkey we've ever had for a holiday. I have even been told to make another one JUST LIKE IT! haha!
My family LOVES it when I cook this:

Baked Ziti, Salad and Cherry Delight!

Family Favorite Recipe:

Poppyseed Chicken casserole

2 to 3 lb chicken breasts baked in oven or sauteed
1 stick oleo (melted)
1 can mushroom soup
1 can cream of chicken soup
1 cup sour cream
1 roll of Ritz crackers
2 tsp poppyseed

Cut chicken or shred in to small pieces. Mix chicken, mushroom soup, chicken soup and sour cream together. Crush roll of crackers and spread evenly across the top. Add poppyseed to oleo and pour across the top of crackers. Bake for 45 minutes - 350 degrees.

your turkey reminds me of my lasagna dinner party years ago....we were having at my Aunts house,it was my first time cooking with gas and I wanted to brown up the top.......needless to say they grease flew and then entire top was on fire .....we too peeled off the top layer and ate it ....I WISH I could recreate it...it too was the best.........funny how things work out sometimes

Welcome 1ofoneboy! Thanks for the chicken recipe. I'll have to keep that one in mind! I see you are from Alabama and have a love of sweet tea! Do you have a recipe for your sweet tea? My husband loves sweet tea - while I think he's just making sugar water with brown coloring! But if I could get a real recipe from you end of the country it would settle so many things between us!

Welcome to Mommysavers Momof1boy!! We're so glad you found us!!

I'm with you on the gator tail...I had some several years ago (in FL.) and really didn't think I'd like it - but I did - tasted just like chicken!!

If you love cooking you'll love the Kitchen section here. The ladies here come up with some really awesome recipes, as well as great cooking/baking advice!!

And if you're looking to save some money, and get stuff for free, come check out the Samples/Freebies forums. You might also check out the Coupon Forum if you're into using coupons. Alot of times there are great ones to be printed off over there.

But come see us over in the Samples Forum! We'd love to have you!

Again, WELCOME!!
Lisa

Welcome fellow Alabamian! I hope you're staying cool with all this hot weather we're having.

I'm not sure how old your ds is, but please drop by the School Age Kids forum if you want to chat about kids and come to the Family Matters forum for any family-related issues.

Wow, I already feel at home! Thanks to all of you for the BIG welcome! Here in Alabama, sweet tea is like a way of life, I'd love to share how I make it.....

I make sweet tea in my coffee pot believe it or not. I add 8 of the small bags (Lipton comes in a box of 100) in the area where I typically place my filter (I do not use a filter to make tea). I add enough water for 6 cups of tea. Brew like you would coffee. Once this is complete, I add the hot tea to a gallon pitcher. Add 1 cup of sugar. Fill to the top of the container with cold water. Stir and you're ready to go!! Good ole' southern sweet tea.
