Picky eaters annoy me too. My little sister wont eat foods touching. So she wont eat shepherds pie. She'll eat the potatoes, veggies and meat separate, but NOT together.
I wouldn't call myself picky but I won't eat seafood. No thanks. Unless it's cod or halibut that's been battered and deep fried, or a small bite of tuna sandwich, then I can stand it. And I definitely won't eat shrimp or lobster. I'm not eating a bug from the sea. Ew.
I also don't eat deer, moose, rabbit or anything "wild" like that. It's that I don't like the taste of "wild" , but mainly for ethical reasons.

That is me totally!!!
I don't think it is a big deal as long as the person doesn't make a big deal of it. If I went somewhere where sea food was served, I would just eat the side dishes and that would be it. If there was nothing else, I would just not eat and eat after I left. No biggie.

I guess I am a little picky at home but it is for two reasons, #1 I can not afford shrimp, steaks, most of the time and so we do not eat them and #2 I try to cook very healthy so that when I am in a situation eating elsewhere I can eat whatever it is. So there is no shellfish, pork, and little red meat in the house. DH hates mushrooms but if I leave them in big chunks he will pick them out. When I am going somewhere I say I will eat anything and I will but I do have to be careful of DD peanut allergy. I guess it also helps that we have a supper picky friend who usually eats in our group and she takes out anything I do not like too much

My son does because I need him to eat more fruits and veggies! DH is the same way. Otherwise, to each his own.
With on exception. I have one relative who always changes her latest fad. One time she was adamant that she wouldn't eat red meat. That's all we had picked up for this special dinner, so DH made a mad dash to get her what she wanted - chicken.
Next time we were prepared w/chicken. Oh, but this time, she was off her red meat abstinence, and refused to eat veal and chicken. Another run.
Then we were doing pasta. Oops...she was on a low carb diet...you get the picture. I just felt like saying, "Eat it and shut up, you fickle one." We hadn't had DS yet, so we didn't know the phrase he learned in preschool: You get what you get and you don't throw a fit.
Whatever happened to grace when you are the guest?

Well, secretly, yes! I am not picky, there are a few things I won't eat (lima beans, organ meats) but I eat just about everything else. Of course there are things I don't prefer but I'd eat them if someone served them.
I grew up in a family where if you don't like something, you certainly don't tell the host/hostess. You don't have to eat it, but you don't voice your opinions to all around, regardless how old you are. Yet, I know parents whose kids are given a food item by someone else as a treat, and they'll wine "I don't liiiiiiike it" and start to cry and the parents just say, "Oh, OK". I don't care how old ds is, I started from the very beginning and told him he is Not to do that, it is Rude and hurts others feelings. Even if their feelings aren't hurt, it's still rude in my book. Just put it aside and don't eat it, don't broadcast it for all to hear!
I have a friend whom I love dearly but she's very picky to the point of, "Come On". To be honest, I see this behaviour is little better than a child's. I find it immature. Like I said, this is 'secretly'. I'd never say anything but in my mind I'm like

I have a few things I do not eat but I have no problem eating "around" it or just eating the sides. I never make a big deal. In fact it has been well known since I was a little kid that I do not eat ham (something about the pink meat, the texture *shudder*) but whenever my mom has a shin-dig? You guessed it. HAM. It is expected that I will just eat the other stuff. Which I do. I agree that you should keep your preferences to yourself. But shouldn't be forced to eat something you don't like.

Yes, picky eaters annoy me. DH being #1... when he doesn't like something he'll say that he's allergic to it. Mushrooms & peanut oil, ugh!
Although I really don't like onion, I don't freak out if it's in something.

This is me. I am what I consider "somewhat picky." I'll try anything that is not a bug. If I'm a guest at someone's house I'll make the grandest attempt to try to eat some tuna noodle casserole if the make they mistake of serving it to me. I will normally just not eat what I don't like. But I absolutely completely and fully despise tomatoes (raw) and mushrooms. I will eat around them. If they are easy to pick out, I'll eat the rest of the dish. If there is other food to eat, I'll eat that & ignore whatever has the tomatoes and mushrooms in it. My friends know this. I do not force them to alter their menus. We get together often & my friend Liz likes to make the tomato/basil/mozzarella salad. I just don't eat it. Helen likes to make sauteed mushrooms to top things. I don't eat that. It's not an issue.
I make sure to make white meat or fish options for some people in my family. Low fat/low sugar for others. I consider it just a matter of being considerate towards my guests and their preferences, if I happen to know them. I know Liz hates salmon & lobster - just about the only seafood I'll eat. So I don't make it for her. Nobody likes everything.
