Here's 1 way I make them......

4 green tomatoes
2 eggs
1/2 c buttermilk(the good stuff No fat free stuff here!!)
1 c flour
1/2 c cornmeal
1/2 c bread crumbs
1/2 c Ritz cracker crumbs
1/4 tsp garlic powder
2 tsp kosher salt
1/2 tsp pepper
2 c bacon grease and 2 c veggie oil mix for frying

slice tomatoes in about 1/2 in slices.

Heat oil and grease over med heat.

Whisk eggs and buttermilk together.

Put flour on one plate and mix cornmeal, garlic, powder, bread and cracker crumbs and salt and pepper on another plate.

Dip tomatoes into flour to coat, then dip the tomatoes into milk and egg mixture. Dredge in breadcrumbs to completely coat then fry......

!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!HERE'S THE IMPORTANT PART!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

NEVER NEVER NEVER
Lay them flat to drain after frying....ALWAYS stand them on end!!!!They will stay crispier longer!!!!

also.you can always spice these up with some cayenne!!

How about you all???

How do I make mine?....Umm....LikeTHIS from now on!!

I can't wait to try this recipe. I never wrote down my Moms recipe for these, but this sounds like just what she did.

THANK YOU FOR POSTING THIS!!!

ETA: Question...can I use sea salt instead of Kosher salt? Or is that the same thing?

The same way I make fried zucchini:
I don't have exact measurements:
* I heat up a frying pan of oil or the deep fryer
* mix together dry pancake mix, salt, pepper, garlic powder, and grated parmesan cheese.
*dip tomatoes in egg then dry mix then double dip,
*If it's zucchini I put them in a freezer for a little bit before cooking
*deep fry till golden brown
sprinkle with grated parmesan

The way you ladies make them sound good.

My Mom made them and I never liked them at all.Just the thought of a green tomato in my mouth is not appatizing.

She would put them in egg wash, dredge them in seasoned flour and fry them up.

Pretty boring right?
