It's hard when my 2 yr old is happily eating whatever I make and then the older two get a sandwhich and she will no longer what she is eating and says she doesn't like it when I know she does. She just always wants to do what they are doing.
That's why I subsitute leftovers for the main course. I automatically put it on their plate and place that on the table so there is no discussion of who is having what. That seems to work for us.

That makes a lot of sense..I will try that next time. The whole scenario happened tonight. My two year old was eating her Tator Tot Hotdish while the older two would not eat it. They got out the bread and made the sandwhiches and sure enough...my 2 yr old wanted the sandwhich too and didn't eat another bite of her hotdish. So frustrating. Thanks for the idea!

I kind of do this too. I "try" to have at least one thing that I know everyone will eat. For example, one ds does not like rice, but the other loves it. When we have rice, ds just eats whatever else is there and skips the rice. I do not make other meals, bowls of cereal, etc. I have told them that kids in Haiti are eating dirt, just off of our shore. If you are hungry enough, you won't be picky. If you have time to be picky, then you must not be THAT hungry anyway. I am mean about that, I guess, but my kids aren't starving either. And I practice what I preach. DH likes sausage and I hate it. Once in a very blue moon I will make it for him. On those nights, I eat whatever the sides are. I don't go pour myself a bowl of cereal.
