Thanks, everyone, for the encouragement! Maybe I'll purchase some new ingredients this weekend (anyone know if TJ's has bread yeast?) and try again.

I felt the same way you do. I was so disappointed that it wasn't working, but I am so glad I didn't give up. I can make the same bread recipe three times in a row and it will turn out a little differently every time. There are so many factors to it, even the weather (humidity) can affect your bread.
