I have a recipe for choc chip cookies that calls for 3/4 cup of butter
and with butter being so expensive, I thought I would just use 1/2 ( 1 stick ) instead

they turned out FINE, even fluffier

so I did it on a different recipe for cookies, added less and they were fine too

now, I don't think I would try this with homemade bread or anything, but cookies...yeah

I'm glad it worked out well. I will have to remember this. I am always nervous altering baking recipes. The other good thing about using less butter is that is better for you! (so you can eat more)

Cool! I usually use a combo of 1/2 c butter & 1/4 c shortening. My dh likes crispy cookies.

I'm gonna try it! Fluffier=better at our house.

I never would have thought to do that with the butter, but I always do it with the chocolate chips. I use 1/2 bag per each batch of cookies I make. I really like chocolate but I like to be able to taste the cookie part too.

I wouldn't have thought of that either!
I know that I have used margarine which is way cheaper and they turn out great. I have also used part crisco and a pinch of salt and those were good too!
