For butter to spread on things, we have been using Promise. I did use Smart Balance for about a year and half but it is so hard, it is hard to spread on stuff. Although that last couple weeks (before this weekend), we were using regular butter because I ran out.

When cooking and baking, I try to use regular butter sticks.

I usually buy Country Crock or Blue Bonnet Spread, unless I buy real butter.

Salted butter - Aldi or store brand
Unsalted butter - Costco or BJ's
Spread - Smart Balance - it's non-hydrogenated - I never use regular margarine!
