I think hamburgers are an American tradition. It's always the first thing we think of when we want to grill out.

How can we create better-for-you burgers?

Let's share some ideas

Here is one I usually make for myself:

I use the Jenny O "seasoned" turkey burger patties (Walmart, sold in packages of ten)
Add two tomatoe slices
a few chunks of fresh avocado
three dill chip pickles
ketchup
mustard
and pepper jack cheese slice

My dh adds sauteed mushrooms and onions to his.

How do you make up your burgers?

Thanks for the recipe! The last time I had turkey anything (I mean like ground turkey, etc) was when I was pregnant with my first. SO now I just stay away from Burger period.

It never occurs to us to grill burgers. My DH grills constantly - all spring/summer/fall. We might have burgers once in the entire season. We're always grilling chicken, steaks, ribs, roasts, salmon, turkey breasts...With burgers, we have to buy all the fixings. The 2 of us would take forever to use up 8 hamburger buns...

We also do not eat beef burgers very often...I just don't like using ground beef in general, and one of my kids won't eat burgers. We grill a lot (fish, chicken, steaks, seafood etc) but I make burgers on the grill maybe once a year...sometimes even less than that! We're just not normal I suppose! LOL!

I do like turkey burgers myself though! I actually put cranberry sauce on them...

We just use lean ground beef. The grease drips off anyway!! I can't stomach ground turkey.

Now that you're in Canada ....

I love the PC Blue Menu chicken and turkey burgers!

I also get veggie burgers (the grainy kind ~ not the meat looking kind) every once in a while for a change.

I know a lot of you dislike Rachael Ray but I happened to see it one day and she was making turkey burgers. She put a lot of fancy stuff in it that I skip but basically you take fresh ground turkey and add dijon mustard. Surprisingly, my hubby loves them! I buy the store brand organic ground turkey.

1 lb turkey burger
1/4 cup dijon mustard
grated cheddar cheese
whatever toppings we have on hand
S&P

You aren't supposed to OVERMIX the turkey. She says it dries it out. I gently mixed the turkey burger and mustard.

That sounds like it would be good and I definately know that it would get ate at my house especially since it has cheese involved. Thanks for sharing!
