My doctor recently told me that I shouldn't be drinking milk. That it's very hard to digest, etc. I've read a lot about pro-milk and anti-milk. While I don't have milk every day, there is just nothing better w/ cake, cookies, brownies....dietary staples for me!
Anyway, I was wondering if anyone else has tried a milk alternative and how they like it and if they use it for cooking/baking as well. I tried some ricemilk last week & used it on my cereal every day (just fine) and drank some small glasses w/ cake or brownie. It wasn't bad - not quite like milk. It's sort of how you drink a dark soda and expect it to be Coke but suprise! it's Dr. Pepper. Not bad, just different. My doctor told me rice milk -not soy milk. I've had the silk soy milk in the past & like it fine but it has SO MUCH sugar in it, I did not use it. The rice milk has less sugar than milk, but also no protein.

I've had vanilla soy milk and I've had chocolate. (the Silk brand and one other which I can't think of off the top of my head)

They were ok. I grew up on a dairy farm so finding a milk alternative has ALWAYS been tough for me...even low fat milk varieties!

My husband is not suppose to drink cow's milk, so we do drink soy milk (vanilla & chocolate). I've never tried rice milk before.

have you ever tried hemp milk? I got some for dd because her iron is low and it is filled with vitiamins. I have baked with it, and unfortunatly I cannot tell you how it was cause what I baked had wheat in it and I cannot eat the wheat, but no one complained about it!

We only drink Soymilk- silk and 8th continent is really good. I have not tried the vanilla flavor, I actually like the regular. Soymilk tastes really good to me. I have found that since drinking soymilk, my stomach is not upset anymore like it used to be with regular milk.

I find rice milk or almond milk (by far the best) to both be a million times better than Silk. I've had Silk several times, but after almond milk, I'd never go back. Plus, my doctor says women should not drink it, so I don't.

I drink Rice Dream rice milk and really like it. Well, I only put it on cereal, but it's yummy. I ran out of regular milk for the kiddos last week and put it on their cereal and they were none the wiser.

I've been drinking Rice Dream for about 5 years now. It does take a few weeks to get used to. Milk slows down my digestive system a lot so I eat cheese or yogurt every couple of days to get the benefits of dairy without the digestive slow down. My 4 yo son has also been drinking it since he turned 2 just because he prefers the taste of Rice milk to regular milk. I prefer the regular version, but if you want something a little sweet tasting, try the vanilla flavor. I also prefer the half gallon refrigerated one. The smaller non refrigerated ones leaves a bad aftertaste in my mouth.

I have heard Almond Milk tastes wonderful. Unfortunately I am very allergic to almonds. I have also heard that Goats Milk is another good alternative for those who can't have cows milk, although I have never tried it.
