1/2 cup milk
1 egg, beaten
1 cup all-purpose flour
2 teaspoons garlic powder
1 1/2 tsp season salt
1 teaspoon paprika
1 teaspoon ground black pepper
1/2 teaspoon poultry seasoning
1 (4 pound) chicken, cut into pieces
3 cups vegetable oil
1 cup chicken broth
1 cup milk

In a medium bowl, mix together 1/2 cup milk and egg. In a resealable plastic bag, mix together the flour, garlic powder ,season salt, paprika, pepper and poultry seasoning. Place chicken in bag, seal, and shake to coat. Dip chicken in milk and egg mixture, then again in flour mix.(Reserve leftover flour mix)

In a large skillet, heat oil to 365(you can make this in an electric skillet)Put coated chicken in the hot oil, brown on all sides. Reduce heat to medium-low, and continue cooking chicken, about 30 minutes.(Or you can put in oven at 400 for about 20 min) Remove chicken from skillet, and drain on paper towels.

Remove all but 2 tbs of the frying oil. Over low heat, stir in 2 tablespoons of the flour mixture. Stirring constantly, cook about 2 minutes. Whisk in chicken stock, scraping browned bits off bottom of skillet. Stir in 1 c milk, and bring all to a boil over high heat, stirring constantly. Reduce heat to low, and simmer for about 5 minutes. Serve with the chicken.

I love fried chicken. I can make anything from a recipe EXCEPT fried chicken. It is a nightmare for me. I have tried so many recipes. Most of the time the breading gets burnt or falls off before the chicken is cooked through. Or it loses all it's flavor. I end up with a big mess and dinner in the trash.
