I think I will have to join y'all as well! I have a ton of weight to loose and I am really bad about the exercise part. At this point I really have no choice though b/c when I went to the doctor to get the results of some blood work recently things were NOT good. Doctor said I am a borderline diabetic, have a thryroid issue going on, and my hormones were almost non-existant. So she has me on a ton of meds but I am supposed to be exercising 6 days a week as well and I am having the worst time getting motivated!! So hopefully checking in w/ others who have some of the same weight loss goals will help motivate me.

This is awesome!! Even though I'm not looking forward to my husband leaving, I am really looking forward to checking in with you gals and making my goals a reality! I went to Target last night and bought a poster board and some colorful markers to make a goal board. I want to keep track of my progress that way so I can keep myself motivated. Once I finish it, I'll try and take a picture to show you all. I'm a visual person so having that and an outfit I want to wear on the day my husband comes home will help me a lot. We still have 6 days before we start so between now and then, I challenge you all to:

1) Find something to look forward to (ie: a reason to lose the weight that will be highly motivating. For me, my husband is coming home and I want to look nice for him and then our trip to Hawaii -- this is REALLY important!!)
2) Define your goals and make them realistic
3) Start pumping yourself up for it by thinking about what you plan to do to reach your goals
4) Cover all the bases. Plan to take vitamins, decide on which exercises will work best for you (do whatever you think you can stick with -- even if its just walking for 20-30 min), stock up on healthy foods and water, see your doctor if need be.
5) If you can and it would help you, make a goal chart or take "before" pics to monitor your progress

I can't wait to get started!!!! :D I want to make this fun so don't feel bad if you slip here and there!!

CAgirl -- you are MORE than welcome to join me in Hawaii if you can!!

3boysmommy -- go ahead and eat your cake girl, its your birthday so enjoy!! Start whenever you are ready!

Everyone -- lets try and list our initial goals for the first month here.

Mine are: Lose 15lbs by the 5th of Feb and exercise 5 days a week for at least 30 min. Also to take a vitamin everyday and drink 64oz of water everyday.

Sorry to make this so long!! Does anyone think I should start a new thread for this or just keep it going on this one?? I thought it might be cool to come up with a cute nickname for our little "group" and start a thread under that name. What do you all think??

Yay, I'm getting excited!! Hugs

I am psyched for this. Well, let's be real. I've been eating out a lot and I'm not going to start the diet till the 5th, so I am kind of living it up until then. Yes, I know that isn't good, but that's what I'm doing.

I think a new thread is probably a good idea, and I love the idea of having a fun name for us. I'm sure someone will come up with a great name!

I need to think about my goals and what my motivation will be. We're getting ready to head out to a family Christmas get-together soon, so I'll have plenty of time today to think about that.

I can't wait to see your goal board, kotasmommy. Good for you for being so motivated. You are inspiring me!!

Yes, I totally agree. I found that low carb is the way to go for me. I just can't do all no-carb so I plan to just cut back and try to eat a well-balanced diet. I want to eat lots of fresh fruits and veggies and avoid sugar and heavy starches like potatoes and pasta. I still need bread here and there but I'm planning to buy a whole wheat, lower carb bread. I tried Atkins for a while and it worked, but I ended up feeling yucky being on that diet for very long.

They called and re-scheduled my appointment for the 3rd since the 2nd is now a national day of mourning for President Ford. I'll let you know how it goes...when they called me back I asked if I could get an appointment with a woman doctor and they gave me one so hopefully that will help!!

Newlywed -- I've been doing the same thing!! Not totally binging but not really being careful like I'm dieting yet. Part of the reason for that is I don't want my husband to suspect anything because I want it to be a surprise. But also so I can kind of get it out of my system for wanting it. My biggest thing is eating out. I really love to. BUT, after the 5th I'll be much more focused because I've been pumping myself up for this and I want to feel and look better WAY more than I want to eat out here and there!!

You can do it!! I have to be realistic with myself too. If I sit and think, "Oh, I'm doing this for myself to feel better and be healthier" it wont work because that doesn't motivate me. I have to think about my husband seeing me thin again and going to the beach in Hawaii feeling thin and looking good. That's just the honest truth! But hey, whatever works right??

Okay, I am in!!! I don't know how much I actually have to loose since I never weigh myself!!! I am thinking around 40. My goals for the month are:

Don't eat so much crap!!! Try to remember to eat regular meals (I always forget and then eat too much because I am starving). Cut the fast food to a bare minimum (help with financial goals too!)

Actually do some sort of exercising!!! We are planing to buy an eliptical machine. I even have a spot for it in the living room. Only we have had so many home repairs lately, that it might have to wait awhile, so I think I will actually dust off my ablounger and put it in that spot for now.

I would like to loose 5 lbs a month. And more importantly, I want to feel healthier!
