It hurts SOOO bad and its right by the nipple and the part thats grown is under the aerola part (sorry if tmi) anyone else have this probelm with lumps?? and what do you do for the pain??? is there anything to do to keep the lumps from reappearing or is it just something you have to have removed frequently?

You just had a baby and are breastfeeding. *It could easily be a clogged duct or an abcess. *I had both and ended up getting one removed by surgery. *The doctor can diagnose it. *However, note this: they may choose to aspirate it, which terrified me. *I had mastitis and was already sore. *They used a thin needle to draw out the fluid, which showed bacteria. Surprisingly, it did NOT hurt. I was so relieved. *Feel free to pm me if you need to. *If you can stand it, continue nursing on that side, as engorgement makes it worse and can help if it a clogged duct. *Try massaging it lightly during and before nursing, and in a warm shower. *Alternating warm and cold packs can help also, but do get it checked out quickly before it grows enough where surgery would be needed. The surgery for me went well, but the healing was slow due to nursing, which slows healing anyway.

Sometimes you can get mastitis while you're nursing. I had it once and it hurt like he** and you'll sometimes run a fever. If this is just fluid filled they shouldn't be surgically removing them. Trust me. I have to have breast cysts aspirated (the fluid pulled out) at least once a year for the last 20+ years, and I've had 5 surgical breast biopsies. I see a breast oncologist because I'm such a hight risk patient. If they're fluid filled they should just be aspirating them. It hurts very, very little as desertmom said. If you have any specific questions I'll be glad to answer them.

I'm so sorry, it just nevers seem to stop does it? I actually have assisted with needle aspirations and prepare specimen for docs. I have never had one but I have never heard any patient complain about pain. I do often hear patients say I thought it was going to hurt. Try not to worry until you have results, I know easy for me to say. I see so many negatives.

sending calming thoughts

So sorry you are going through this. I had a lump removed about 12 years ago. It was a very scary and difficult time for me. I did ask specifically and was very clearly told that my lump should not come back and that I was not at any greater risk for future lumps than someone who had never had one. I'm confused then why you were told that yours might come back. I know there are different kinds of lumps and some doctors think they can relate some to certain activities -caffeine, etc. so I'd be sure to ask your doctor to tell you more about 'what kind' of lump you have and do some further research on your own. I had a lumpectomy so still have a scar and yes it was painful but only for a few days and so much better to have it removed and know I was okay. I did not have any pain associated with the lump while I still had it.

Call your doctor right away, ask lots of questions and get some answers.

Lou

hey guys.
i had the lump removed before as it was not fluid filled.. it was solid.. its the same lump.. i shoed my obgyn at my last appt before the baby as it had come back and he said it seems to be the same thing again...
so i am gong to go back in and see what to do.. i think remove again.. i cant deal with it. but really it came back like 4 months later or so.. not sure if its worth it.... they said hormones while pregnant can make them come back and grow...
I am sick of it.. my first one came when i was 16..... ugh!

Okay...do you drink alot of caffeine?? There are conflicting studies about the effects of caffeine on fibrocystic breast disease, but I know when I don't drink it I don't get lumps nearly as bad, but when I start slacking off they'll come back. So even though lots of people don't think caffeine matters, for me it does. Might try that. The only other thing I'll say is that my surgeon told me I couldn't have every lump removed because I'd be having surgery on my breasts several times a year. So they just try to determine with mammogram or ultrasound, plus biopsy via needle aspiration to determine if they really need to be removed. If this is a reoccuring problem with you, make sure you're seeing a specialist, not just a regular OB/GYN or a regular surgeon. HTH
