I was told by my doctor that dvery once in a while you should do a "rev up" day for you metabolism. This means eat enough calories to maintain your current weight ...not loose. If you don't know how to figure this out...some formula to get this #...you should eat several hundren calories OVER your "diet amount:. For me...my diet amount is about 1200-1400 calories. Anyway...I guess the rev up day is to get your body back to "thinking" you are not trying to loose weight, so it readily gets rid of the fat, instead of trying to hold on to it because of you reducing your daily calorie intake.

Just wondering if anyone does this.

Speaking as a personal trainer, I think that it is a good idea. Since the beginning of time, our bodies are used to going into starvation mode if they are not fueled properly. You explained it well and if you and others are restricitng calories as well as working out more, your body is probably craving this. HTH!

How often is this suggested? I'm all for this idea. This would be a good day to go out to eat with my dh. Of course, I'd still make healthy choices, but maybe could indulge a bit.

Well I know I "reved up" today! I had 1 donut this morning, 2 slices of plain pizza and Taco Bell for dinner! I know this is a lot more calories than what I have been eating- I hope that is true! BTW- I am going back to eating healthy and exercising for a 1/2 hour longer than usual- if the baby I will be babysitting will let me!

Yes! And for the reason Liamsmyangel stated....because if you restrict too much each and every day, your body will go into starvation mode. 1 day a week (usually Sat or Sunday, ) I eat my normal caloric intake need (What I would eat to "maintain" my weight) . I do it once a week ,b/c I treat this as my 'off' day, so I don't feel like I'm dieting (I hate that word).
It works well this way for me....I'm, losing weight and still getting a sort of 'treat' day.

I am doing it a couple times a month. Yesterday was my first one. I new if would be because my Mom and I made valentines day chocolate suckers and cookies for my son's school parties for V'day and his B-day. (Sticking in the freezer 'cause i have NO time after this past weekend) Anyway...I ate a cookie and samples some of the chocolate along the way. It was so good, and I thought it would really make it hard to get back to healthy eating today, but I am fine. FHEW! I've lost 16 pounds, but I don't want to screw it up. I have 60 more to go!

I too do this, not because of those reasons stated but I think I would go crazy if I didnt or have a terrible binge! I dont want to be like that.
