You'll be fine short term. The warning from the drs. is to use tampons during the day and pads at night. Using them full time can simply increase the risk of toxoplasmosis. The whole thing stemmed from the late 70's early 80's when the Rely tampons came out - they absorbed so much that women weren't changing them frequently enough, so bacteria would form. Changing them every 3-4 hrs is recommended. They took those super absorbent tampons off the market, which is too bad, as they were great.

I wear them all the time during mine... If I am haveing a really heavy day I have to change them mroe often also I wear a panty liner just incase. I even wear them to bed. With TSS is is just do not wear them for more than 6-8 hours depending on flow and also makeing sure you are using the right size for flow also.

I can't use thhem at all because of the TSS. I ended up in th ER, and it ended up being the tampons. And I did change them regularly. My midwife said that it's because the blood gets backed up and overflows back into the ovarian cavity (or something like that)... this is what causes the TSS. So I know it's not fun but it's not a good idea to use them on the really heavy days. Sorry to be the downer on this one.

I am typically heavy my first two days and I try NOT to use tampons because I am that heavy. I instead use thin and long super maxi pads, by Kotex and I love them. They are very absorbent and as thin as a panty liner.

I only wear tampons and a little panty liner just incase of a little leakage.
I change often and wear them to bed too. Ive done this since a teen and havent had any problems.

crazy - thanks for asking this question. I had almost asked it a couple of weeks ago but was too embarrassed. You're so brave!

I'm also heavier the first couple of days, but not super heavy. I can get by with the ultra thin tampon those first 2 days, then a panitliner after that. I will also use a pantiliner at night, just in case on the first 2 days. From what I understand, the thinner the tampon, the lower the risk of TSS, and change often at LEAST every 4-6 hours during the day and up to 8 hours at night.

I have to use tampons and pads at the beginning. I just don't feel clean if I just wear a pad.
