Just wondering if anyone has any suggestions for some inspirational reading. I have been reading Joel Osteen's book, and it's pretty good. I'd like suggestions for fiction too...something a little more than Janette Oke though. I like her books for a fun read, but I'm looking for something more along the lines of The Sin Eater...has anyone else read that? It was pretty good. I've seen the book The Red Tent around.... isn't it about the women of the Bible? And if so, is it a Christian book, or just someone who took the characters and ran with them?

The Last Sin Eater is a fabulous book and I can't wait to see the movie when it comes out on video. For that matter, anything by Francine Rivers is fantastic - including Redeeming Love, The Atonement Child, The Mark of the Lion Series, And the Shofar Blew, Leota's Garden...I could go on and on. Some of Frank Peretti's books are good too if you like suspense - This Present Darkness and Piercing the Darkness etc. My sister really likes Karen Kingsbury. Oh, and Angela Elwell Hunt - The Justice, The Immortal, The Truthteller, the Proposal, etc. I lived on Christian fiction growing up although I don't have time to read it much anymore - lately I have had my hands full reading parenting books!

On the non-fiction side you might try The Purpose Driven Life by Rick Warren (if you haven't read it already), Intimate Issues by Linda Dillow & Lorraine Pintus (all about women and sexual intimacy in marriage). I haven't read Wild at Heart by John Eldredge but it's supposed to be wonderful. I have read the companion book for women called Captivating, and it's okay.

Thanks so much Stephpook for all the suggestions...those sound right up my alley. I had forgotten the authors name who wrote Sin Eater...I didn't even think of seeing if she had more books out there. They made it into a movie? Do you know the name of it? or is it called Sin Eater too?
I can't wait to get some of these books.
Thanks so much!!

The movie is also called The Last Sin Eater. I think it's already out in theaters but it's a Fox Faith film and they have an extremely limited release. I live in Maryland and the closest theater to me that is showing the movie is in Virginia.

I really cannot say how much I love Francine Rivers books. She is such a phenomenal writer and she easily covers a wide range of topics. The list I gave you isn't comprehensive - there are many others out there...let me know how you like them! My personal favorites (other than The Last Sin Eater) are the Mark of the Lion series (historical fiction - early Christians and the Roman Empire), Redeeming Love (fictional retelling of the book Hosea in the Bible), and The Atonement Child (rape/abortion issues) - but that's just me. Hope you enjoy them!!
