Dd's friend takes it. She is 11 and is already a blackbelt. Her sister, 14, is a double black belt! The older sister loves it, the younger one, not so much. But her mom wanted her to finish and get the black belt. All depends on what your dd likes. Couldnt hurt to try it!

I am the one who just started Taekwando!! My dd (13) has been in it for 3 years now and so have my 3 boys. It is great for anyone!! I would tell her to try it out and see what she thinks!! I sure am wishing I would have started this years ago when my kids started. Now they all our rank me! Even my 6 yr old

My dd did it when she was in elem. school and got all the way up to brown belt. She eventually stopped it because she was doing so many other things she liked. But if your dd wants to do it, then I'd be all for it. It teaches discipline, self defense and is good exercise.

I love martial arts, too! And, highly recommend it for all girls and women. I am an assistant instructor at our school. Approximately 20% of the students are girls. And, some of the best students are girls! There are so many benefits for females. The added self-confidence and self-awareness will make it less likely that she will become a victim of some sort plus her training will prepare her if something should happen. This is a sport that girls can definitely excel at!

I used to take it in high school. I made my way up to green belt and helped teach classes. I'm going to put my boys in maybe next year. I can only say good things about my experience with it.

My 5-year-old dd talks about doing karate. She also talks about going back to gymnastics - she did that for about a year when she was 3. She also enjoys dancing and wants to play soccer, too! Does anybody have any suggestions on her trying things out? I like the idea of karate for the self-discipline and self-control - she sure could use some non-parent teachers on those subjects!
