I was thinking of her, too, today. How did it go?

Well, the dr. referred them to a psycologist, but basically told my sister that she thinks this is all normal preteen stuff. My sister agrees, so I don't know what else I can do. I have a daughter only 3 months younger than her...and have two older, too..and there is no way this is normal. Having your food brought out to you not cooked quite right at a restaraunt and having to go sit in the bathroom for an hour while you sob because of it is not normal. Going to visit your aunt, who practically raised you for the first several years of your life, and then after that has had you for weeks at a time as many times as we could do it..and it was OFTEN..and having sobbing spells for no reason..that is not normal. Sleeping all day everyday is probably normal for a 17 year old (!), but not a 10 year old. Waking up at night because of acid reflux and anxiety attacks over school starting tomorrow...where she will still know the same kids..well, again, just not normal. All I can ask is that you all continue to pray for her. I think she should have been given some kind of mild anti-anxiety meds. I know medication is not always best, but she is at the point of not being able to listen to reason..and a psycologist is just going to be another fear for her. She will sit there and nod her head and cry and go home with nothing. I think the medicine could take the edge off of her anxieties/depression, and then allow her to HEAR what the drs, her family, and psycologist are saying. I am just so frustrated and worried.
Thanks for asking, though. I'll try to keep you updated on when she gets in with the psycologist.

th phsyochologist shouldn't be a one-time thing. he shoudl see her how she is and be able to perscribe the best way to deal with it, then see how she's doing after x amount of time and then be able to talk to her and all that jazz

I'm glad your sister is doing something.
I was 6 when the dr's noticed my position towards depression, but my parents always pushed it away and never took it seriously. my dh at his point tells me that a person would hafta be without a brain to not see something is not right with me. after 17yrs i don't knwo what life without depression and anxiety is anymore, and to think of going to a dr and possibly getting meds that would possibly make me feel normal is as scary of a thought as my death is.

even if she is jsut gong through short bought of mild depression, it is better for it to be taken care of now, with counseling, herbs, meds, whatever, atleast then she will be able to handle it when she is older because she'll have the understanding that hers is real and not just something she's making up an it's ok to get help when it's needed
