I'm not Catholic, so I need some help from those of you who are. My Godson will be having his 1st Communion shortly. What would be a good gift for the occasion? Thanks!

I remember I got a cross necklace, cross earings, and a rosarie.
I guess something religious? Maybe a book.

I depends on the family. I would as his mom what she suggests.

I have used this website before for my godchildren. For a boy, I would probably get a children's book on religious saints - maybe the one he is named for or a crucifix for the wall in his room. I try to get one secular and one religious gift at sacrament time.

There was a thread about this the other day, I'll see if I can dig it up...

We usually give money and then depending on our relationship with the child, another gift. You can go the religious route, cross necklace, rosary, medals, bible, crucifix, figurines, holy water font, framed religious art etc

Look online...some places have just total junk, but it will give you some ideas. You can check out department stores near you, religious book stores etc

Catholic Gifts :: First Communion Dress :: Willow Tree Angels

Cash's of Ireland has some nice gifts...

BELLEEK HOLY COMMUNION CROSS BOY

NAO® "MY FIRST COMMUNION"

Goebel "Angel and Lamb" Holy Water Font

Some folks give totally non-religious gifts too. It's just up to you.

If you have a Catholic store around. You should go in and check it out. They have alot of great ideas. And the people can help you alot. If you attended the baptism and first communion try to remember what was given then and give what wasn't. Usually it's items like Bibles, rosaries, crusifixes, prayer books, his saint medal, book, and some have movies.

We have a very big family and so we usually give a book (not a Bible, but a story book) and then give cash. Because our family is so large if we try any of the "usual" gifts we usually wind up with triplicates on Bibles, rosaries, and wall crosses.
