I have strep throat for the 3rd time in 2 months. And this time.. its REALLY bad. I went to the dr yesterday and he put me on pinicillin this time. (Amoxicillian before) And said to come back in 2 weeks to make sure it was clear. Then .. if I get it again that he would test everyone in the house to see who the immune carrier is (which is probably my dh.

What can I do to make it better at home??? I cant even talk!!!!! It HURTS. The meds havent kicked in yet.. or something.. cause this is NOT FUN!

I have never had it but once in my life and it was about a year ago. My throat was so sore I could barely swallow my saliva. I wish I knew something to tell you. For about 2 days, I couldn't do anything but hurt. Sometimes sucking on hard candy helps a sore throat. Gargle. I just couldn't find anything to touch the pain of strep throat. You are much younger than I am so I hope you bounce back fast. Also I hope you find something to help the pain and with 3 kids and not being able to talk. Wow, maybe try whispering. They will have to get close to you to hear your. Or maybe you can find a bell to ring when you need to get their attention.

Use the sign language are easy way to communicate with your children when you can't talk and that is very smart way to do that! LOL BTW I am deaf working mother of 1 son who is 2 years old and my husband is hard of hearing also, we always use sign language and voice to our son all the time. He really do pick up a lot to sign to us at home all the time.

When I had strep I was eating IBprofin like it was candy - to help with the pain and kill the fever that I had. I gorgled a lot with salt water and drank lots of hot tea.
Also, (even though my DH finds it gross), hot milk really helps bc it coats your throat for period of time.
Good luck and hope you feel better!

okay, if there is one thing I know about in life, it's a sore throat.

1) Gargle with warm salt water every couple of hours.

2) Follow that with 1-2 tablespoons honey and lemon juice.

3) Sometimes a hot pack on the neck can help, especially if there is swelling.

4) Wear socks at all times (don't know why....but it works)

5) This is the most important one: get some Alpine Instant Spiced Cider. Just about every grocery store or chain store or whatever sells this. It's usually in the juice isle, but sometimes with the tea or hot cocoa. It's very important to get the Alpine brand and not the generic and also get the regular and not the sugar free. Make it really hot and take small sips. I don't know why, but it helps SO much. This has been my remedy for years, through strep, other thoat infections, colds, flu and laryngitis. All my friends and family now swear by it as well.

Good luck. I hope you find some relief.

-Lucky
