I've recently become friends with another Mom in my neighborhood. Our boys are pretty close in age (16 mos and 20 mos). She is a personal trainer and works about 25-30 hours a week. I'm pure SAHM with some mystery shopping on the side. Last week, she mentioned that she would train me for free if I would swap out some babysitting time and watch her little boy. I know she usually charges $50-$75/hr to train her real clients. Here's the problem...

I am soooooo lazy. I'm not obese but I'm not as fit as I should be either. I'm one of those girls who is happy to walk 1-2 times a week. But then, not so happy trying on swimsuits at the mall.

Part of me wants to take the deal. Another part of me keeps saying, "You'll have no time if you obligate yourself to one more hourly thing per week."

Will someone just tell me I'm crazy and make me feel bad if I turn this down? Why am I so anxious about this anyway? What am I afraid of?

Well, I don't like to call people I don't know 'idiots' but in this case...yes. :D But I love working out and being sore and sweaty. That's just something I'd be into. You can always try it out and if you don't like it, don't do it. But you can surprise yourself with your love of fitness.

I would do it, I sometimes barter with my hairdresser. I watch her kids she does hair for all 4 of us! I would kill for a personal trainer but cant afford one so I may be a little bias

Take it!!
That is an awesome opportunity. You already like this person and your kids get along. You are getting the better end of the deal in the long run. I say go for it. Good luck.

OH MY GOD take it!!!

I say that with enthusiasm by the way

This may be the very thing you need to turn your life around and find the motivation to get your life onto a much healthier track; emotionally and physically.

Personal Trainers are so expensive and their services are so awesome. If you can get that FREE simply by babysitting for her, I would take it. PLUS it gives you ME time....and who wants to turn down ME time? Doing something for yourself, all the while getting in shape and feeling better about your self image is so worth it

If I were you, I wouldn't hesitate...I would take it. If part of you is making up all the reasons why you shouldn't, turn that noise off! Stop the negative talk and just go for it. Like I said, it could be the very thing that could change your life!!! Don't balk at that. This may have happenned for a reason!

Go call her right now and tell her YES!!! Now only do this if her child isn't a little terror or you don't trust that she will follow through with her part of the deal.....if those are not the case...run run run call her.

Thanks for your thoughts. Obviously, this IS an opportunity for me and I shouldn't ignore it. I've never had a trainer before, am not sure what to expect, am a Y member but rarely go, so...I think you are all right. Doing something completely different than what I'd usually do might turn out really positive in the end. And if I hate it, I can always stop. But, maybe I won't hate it and I'd love to look really tone, especially now that summer is on its way. And, I didn't even think of it as ME time...DUH!!! Thanks y'all.

1) If you are unmotivated, it's not going to work...PERIOD. A work out routine is like quiting an addiction: you HAVE to be committed. Otherwise you're going to dread it. It's going to be a chore. It will be a negative experience.

2) If you don't actually have the time to commit to it, you are adding fuel to the fire!

Personally, I think that if you take her up on it, you'd be shooting yourself in the foot. This has the definite possibility of making your relationship with her uncomfortable. You don't want to avoid your friend just because you want to avoid the gym.

I would strongly encourage you to do some real soul searching about it and then talk to her.

Good luck!

-Lucky
