OK, my best friends dd has it (age 2 1/2) and 3 weeks ago, my kids were over her house. I think we are safe time-wise of when they were exposed to her dd, but my kids are not vaccinated for it! I think it's a few dose vaccination so it may be too late to get fully vaccinated for it, but I wondered if anyone has known anyone with it and what they've done to ease it. TIA!!

Are you sure her child had whooping cough and not just croup?? If it was WC, and your kids haven't been vaccinated (why, I might ask?) then call your doctor and ask them their recommendations. Or better yet, make an appt and go in & talk to him. Have the dates your kids played with hers, when her child first exhibited symptoms, etc. Different diseases have different incubation times, so you may be safe. But this is why doctors recommend vaccinations. So we don't get another outbreak of people with this potentially fatal disease going around passing it to other people.

As far as vaccinations, I am just not ready to vaccinate my kids until they are a little older. One is 4, the other 7 mos. I don't think my baby would have had all of them by now anyway.

They did go to the pediatrician and there is no "test" for whooping cough, you just diagnose based on the symptoms. My friend also has her own medical practice and she agrees with the diagnosis. I may consider just this vaccination, but I am not sure if I can get just that, it's combined with others. It was 3 weeks ago that we were at a kid picnic with her kids as well as the other kid that had it. They think they picked it up while on vacation in NC in July. The mom even got it, I guess her vaccination wore off. Apparently it's been on the increase, because of the vaccinations wearing off in adults. Great...

I have never heard of a vaccine for WC and I worked for a dr for years. My niece even had it and nothing was ever mentioned about a shot. She was put on meds and has since gotten over it. I hope your family doesnt get it for it was a nasty cough and she was really grumpy for a while but got over it quickley

Yes, same thing. But I do think it's in with other vaccinations.
