wow ladies! thanks SO much for all the support and helpful information! i am so souped and excited to get my starter kit now!

and me&my, wow congrats to your hubby! he lost the weight AND kept it off...wonderful for him! i am praying that's my outcome!

haha, if i could i'd skip to the grocer now and pick up a batch. but eek...50.00 is gonna have to wait til payday.

i don't mind the bathroom thing at all...and since i have pantyliner coupons haha, i'll be definitely going out to buy the meds. i am not really stressing that excess going thing, just because like i said, i'd rather be pooping the stuff OUT than storing it in my belly.

i will definitely keep everyone updated on how it's working for me. i am very positive about this.

I, myself, would skip the "starter kit" and just get a bottle of the pills. The starter kit just has info on how to eat healthy and you pay for all of that info. that you don't need. All you need to know is that you need to take a pill with in 30 minutes of eatting a meal that contains fat. If you only have coffee and a bowl of granola for breakfast, you don't need a pill then. DH and my mom only took 2 pills a day (not three) unless they had a full breakfast. Just remember to take the pill with in 30 minutes of eatting a meal- You cannot take more than 3 a day

yanno, i was thinking to skip the starter kit since i have basically researched this crap for the last 6 weeks, and pretty much know all there is to know about it fact wise. i am just hoping for positive experiences for myself with it now.

so yeah, i think i am going to skip the starter kit and just go straight for the pills. they don't give you starter kits when you start any other meds...so i am pretty sure that's just paying for a bunch of hype.

i do know about taking the pills 30 minutes before a meal, OR 30 minutes after a meal if you cannot take one before. i also know that there is no need to take a pill if your meal is very light on the fat. so i will probably be like your family and take one only for lunch and dinner. and since my lunch time here at work is closer to the end of the day, if i have to, i will bring a pantyliner , but hopefully i can make it home before anything erupts

i'm going to get my first set tomorrow. but now i'm wondering, is it safe to buy these things off ebay? because i see them being sold left and right...but just not sure if i should trust medications that aren't coming to me directly from the store.

Wow I think I may have to try this! I toook perscription pills and had problems with them, then gained all the weight right back, I have bowel problems too , most times only having a movement once a week or longer-TMI I know. So it may be a good thing for me!

hey meghanns...maybe it will help you. i always thought meds were an absolute no no because they showed weakness, or an inability...but now i know that sometimes we just need help.

i ordered my first set (went to ebay anyway), and paid 25.00 for a set that someone didn't want because they didn't like the side effects at all. so it should come asap, because it's been shipped already, and i'll start.

i was thinking about blogging about my successes (and failures). i'll wait a week before i decide...

if you try it, i hope it works for you--just like i hope it works for me!

I don't trust the potential side effects of these drugs. I think it was Fen Fen that my aunt was prescribed. She developed the lung problems that were a side effect the government found out about later. She is on oxyen all the time now and it will eventually kill her. I think taking drugs to lose weight is a temporary fix. I've seen people lose weight only to gain it back when they stop taking the drug.

deemom, i totally agree about many things you've said. however, i think that all drugs basically fall into the same category. if i take a drug for my heart, i'll probably develop some type of wierd disease 20 years down the line. if i take a drug for blood pressure, one for diabetes, one for ADD, one for ADHD, the same things could happen later in life. drugs are drugs and they all have their downside. heck, i am an avid lover of excedrin and tylenol for servere migraines. i will probably die of a cracked liver in 20 years from my use of it now, who knows?

for some of us, weight loss is a SERIOUS problem and it largely impacts our quality of life and self esteem. it's easier for someone more comfortable with their weight to pinpoint out problems with not doing it "the old fashioned way", but for those of us living the NIGHTMARE that is overweight/obesity issues, the old fashioned way is obviously not working.

i am willing to give this a try just like i am willing to give any other drug a try. heck, they all have some deep dark secret about them. for now, i am willing, and if it doesn't work, i will stop. my weight severely impacts my self image and at this point, the point beyond diet and exercise, i am willing to try something to help me along, the same way someone with cancer or HIV is willing to take a drug that will help them fight what ails them.

it took me alot of prayer, research, and thought to get to this point. at one time, drugs were something that i scoffed at, because i felt that it made me feel "weak" to need the help of any outside factors or people. but i realized that's not true. it's ok to need help. and it's ok to ask for it.

i have successfully lost 20 pounds, but the effort i put in without any outside help far exceeded the benefits in my opinion. 30 minutes of walking per day, severely changing my eating habits, etc...helped me lose 20 lbs. and it is good, but it is not enough. i do not have that time and energy i had before for weight loss. i work now, my daughters have all grown 1 year older and 1 year more active, my husband has things that i must help him with, my household needs cleaning, i have pets that need care, the list goes on. i just don't have time to run around the block 30 times. blessedly, i have not gained back a single pound, despite my habits changing and not being so stringent. that's because i still eat a pretty healthy diet. so i am confident that if i can drop 30 lbs, my diet will support the maintainence of that weight loss.

well, today was my first official day of starting alli. i took 2 pills today, and hmm...i haven't pooped yet. i haven't even pooted (passed gas) yet! which took me by surprise. hmm. and i will admit, my diet wasn't exactly salad and water today. had a pretty full lunch of rice and beans and baked roast, an ice cream cone, and tea...and the same for dinner. and like i said, not so much as a rumble deep in the belly.

well hopefully i won't wake up running to the bathroom. not sure exactly when i should be going to the bathroom after taking the pill? but i know it hasn't happened within the last 12 hours!

hope this stuff doesn't constipate me!
