Just wondering if any of you other plus sized girls have problems with your monthly periods?? It seems like the older i get the harder the cramps and flow each month. In the past i would occasionally have 2 periods per month, last month i flowed for 14 days. This month (started Friday night) the cramps are still horrible and the flow is heavy. I have tried talking to my dr about this in the past, her advice was to go on birth control pills, which at this point is just not affordable for me,nor do i like even being on them at all!! Then she said if i lost weight it would help my periods......GREAT that really helps considering im not gonna drop 100lbs by next month!
I've had 2 c-sections and have also had 1 ovary and tube removed and also hypothyroid,i don't know if any of these factors are causing me problems now?? SO i was wondering if this truely is weight related???

I was just looking up Thyroid issues and it said something about heavier periods and cramps with hypothyroid. Let me go find it again and i will post the site for you.

Ok here you go.......http://thyroid.about.com/cs/basics_s.../a/10signs.htm

You may have to cut and paste it...i'm not sure it will link...

Look at #6!!! Maybe you could look up some more info on hypothyroid....

Hope this helps.

Oh and by the way i am plus sized and i hardly ever get a period or cramping.

I had LOTS of problems. I was diagnosed with Polycystic Ovarian Disease. I am on hormones and had to adjust my diet. It has gotten a lot better. I still have problems if I don’t avoid certain carbs but it is something you may want to look at. It affects your thyroid, sugar levels, ovulation, weight and hormones.

Feel free to IM me if you want more info.

My periods have gotten worse as I gain weight. Although I'm not sure it's weight or age. They are longer and more irratic. I too was told to go on birth control pills, no way on God's green earth will I go on them again. I just eat pain pills and paddle through. Good luck to you.

I am overweight as well. I had been on bc pills but even now that I am not I have normal periods and light pms - the worse I get is a little hormonal and I get hormone headaches.

I do want to ask could you be perimenopausal? I have a friend in her early 40's and lately she has been noticing much heavier periods and pms symptoms plus she is also overweight.

I have heard that weight can affect your periods/fertility but I have never had that problem. If you have insurance you may want to talk to your dr to see if the menopause could be possible - I believe there is some blood work they can do to determine this.

Hope this helped a little - good luck.

I was pretty thin until I had babies and then I put on a ton of weight. My periods have always been awful, but it is because I have endometriosis. Weight really hasn't affected my periods, so I wouldn't chalk it up to your weight so quickly. I would think there is something else going on. Maybe it is as cj's mom mentioned. I'd simply talk to my dr. at my annual (or sooner if you insurance).

While I am not overweight, I have always had problems with bad cramps during my period. They actually got better after I had my kids. I can tell you that Naprosyn (Naproxen) works great for menstrual cramps. You can either get it via prescription at the Dr. or over the counter where tylenol is sold.
