I used to feel intimidated by the gym because there was so much stuff and I was absolutely clueless about it all.....and of course I was worried about what others must be thinking about me as I meander around the gym looking so lost. But now that I've been a few times, I've learned a few things (and I hope by sharing them someone else will learn it too)
1) NOBODY cares what you're doing.....nobody. People look around to see who they know, but no one is there to judge you. In fact, they are giving you kudos for being there...you are one of them!!
2) the weight machines all have pictures and explanations as to how to use the machine! Yay! that helps a lot too when you are new to a gym. You don't have to feel silly about asking someone for help
3) asking for help is common ~ if for a veteran gym goer....there are people paid to be there to help you so use them if you have questions
4) FITLINXX is awesome...if your gym has one, set up a time to meet with someone to show you around and how to use it...and start using it! It's an awesome program
5) The weight room is not just for boys. If you want to use free weights, you just mosie on in there and grab a set. Again, the mentality is: you are one of them!! They will give you kudos for being so 'strong'!!
6) If you don't like what is on the media center, ASK for them to change the channel. That is perfectly ok and chances are, others will be happy you took the initiative too!
So get in there....don't be shy.....and get movin!
