When you pray about something whether it is for yourself, a friend, or a family member and what you are praying for does not materialize, do you immediately think that God has another plan for you/them or do you think he's being unfair? Is it easy or hard for you to see things work out in a different way? Or does it take some time?

I don't have a good answer but it sure does remind me of that Garth Brooks song. Beautiful song if you haven't heard it.

I would like to think that everything happens for a reason. Good and bad. Sometimes it just takes a while to figure it all out.

Good question!

I always try to remember that God answers things in his own time, not yours. So, though you may not see an answer yet, he hasn't forgotten you!

I agree with maggie...God has his own plan. He does things in His time and not in ours. There is a reason for everything going the way it does. Even if we personally don't see the effects of our prayers, it doesn't mean they haven't been answered...

While I understand that God has his own plan and His own timing, I'm curious to know YOUR immediate response.

I am not referring to anything particular here when I say this, however, I know that if I put my heart and soul and time into something and then give it up to "fate" or "God's Plan" to see it through, 99% of me wants it to go the way I want it to go. So if my prayers are unanswered, I would be sad, hurt, upset. It would take some time to see that things go according to His plan, but my initial feeling would be sadness.

It is sometimes hard to remember that God is in control. It is frustrating when your prayers go unanswered or if the answer you are looking for is not the one that God gives. As much as I want God to answer my prayers my way, I try to remember that it isn't always what I want, and sometimes his timing is not my timing. So yeah, I get upset and frustrated if it isn't my way!

I tend to not pray to ask for anything. I pray to express gratitude. I pray to express God's control over a situation but I don't make outright requests. My religion believes strongly in 'free will' so I try to acknowledge that most of the time God is doing all he can, it is us humans that mess up.

Sometimes he answers them fast and sometimes they take time. He never fails though, so I try to keep that in mind. He knows more than we do. I try to use patience and faith and I think that sometimes, he may take his time to teach me that. Sometimes when I quit worrying over an unanswered prayer he seems to answer it.

Interesting. Maybe I ought to do it that way! Although the majority of my personal prayers are in appreciation and gratitude for the MANY undeserved blessings in my life. Thanks, this may be the one thing I needed to be reminded of!
