I started meds for hypothyroidusm (hasimoto's disease--I had previos posts about it) last week, so it hasn't been that long but I thought I was feeling better for a few days, even my hubby noticed I had more energy and was easier to be around...placebo effect probably because I know it takes several weeks for my hormone levels to equal out...but this morning I am feeling just as bad as before I started the meds again...I am super tired, and was last night too) had a heated discussion over something probably stupid this morning with DH (posted about that too, finances) hollored at my girls for silly reasons before school and now that it is just me and the baby (2 are at preschool for the AM and baby is sleeping) I can't stop crying...I just want to feel normal again, I really hate this! It is not like I am in crisis mode or anything, I mean I am fine and I know what the problem is, but I am just so sad right now for no real reason...can anyone tell me how long it really will be before I get balanced out?

First off.........HUGS!!! You will have bad days and good days, just keep taking your meds. It takes awhile to regulate your thyroid levels and i know you probably don't want to hear that but it does. Is your doctor testing your blood every 6 weeks? The thing about thyroid levels is they cannot give you big jumps in doses at one time, it has to be a gradual process otherwise it could throw you into Hyperthyroidism and cause alot of strain on your heart. I've been on meds for over 12 years and i still have days that i am depressed and cry, mostly those days are near to when my monthly period starts.
If you have just had a baby and are just finding out you are hypothyroid it's definitely going to affect your moods. Hang in there and try to "google" thyroid disease and read whatever you can on the subject. I believe Yahoo groups also has a thyroid support group you could join too. Just keep taking those meds!!

Big hugs....I had my thyroid removed back in Sept. I had thyroiditious...sp...and a bad case of it. I am supposed to go back to the Dr this month for a blood check up. I still do not feel quite right, so I am sure they will have to adjust the meds. Keep your head up...these things do not happen overnight. They had me wait two months to do the follow-up. It will get better, I am still hoping so....

I totally feel your pain. I have just been diagnosed with hypothyroidism and started taking meds about a month ago. At first I felt great; I was back to my old self again. Now, I too am back to being tired and sad all the time. I snap at my son for the littlest things. I go back to the doc in Jan for blood work.

Hang in there. I guess I look at it as at least I know what is wrong with me and it’s just a matter of adjusting the meds now.

Any thoughts on trying to heal this naturally? I know that everyone wants the quick fix to feel better faster....but here is what I did.

About 2 years ago my body gave out on me. I couldn't crawl out of bed to save my life! After 3 months of trying to figure out what was wrong, I finally found Linda Wagner my nutritionist/herbalist. After a couple of weeks of feeling miserable I went to my general practitioner and she ran some standard blood test which came back "normal". I gave those same results to Linda and she immediately saw that my thyroid, adrenal glands, and pituitary glands were all out of whack. She said what's normal for everyone else may not be normal for me. She also said that it made sense that if my Thyroid was out of whack that the adrenals and pituitary would also be off since the three of them work together all the time.

Long story short, I worked with Linda for 7 months taking herbs and organic supplements, and radically changing my diet. At the 7 month mark I felt like my old self again...but healthier. In that 7 month period I had naturally cleansed out and strengthened each major organ of my body one at a time.

The major thing that told me I was very healthy was after 4 years of infertility (4 major surgeries and having my OB tell me after the last one that I had a slim to none chance of getting pg naturally and a less than 10% chance of getting pg with IVF) I found out I was pg...and from the good old fashioned way! My baby girl is now 8 months old.

So the path I chose to getting better took longer....but I believe it was worth it in the long run. My intent when starting with Linda wasn't to get pregnant, but to get healthy and functioning normal again.

Oh yeah, my GP told me at my second visit to her about my condition was that I was totally normal...except for in the head. She literally told me that there was nothing wrong with me and that it was all in my head. She said that I was crazy and the I should see a psychiatrist immediately and get on antidepressants. Yet she couldn't explain why I had no energy and felt like the room was spinning all the time. And I was "Normal" in her eyes. Needless to say I never went back to her.

If you are interested, you can check out Linda Wagners site at www.endometriosissupport.com

I really learned a lot from Linda about how the body works to heal itself, what foods to eat more of, what foods/ingredients to stay away from and why.

Also since I live in CA and she is CO I worked with her by phone, and email. I did once a month phone appointments with her.

I don't know if working with her will work with you like it did for me, but since the meds you are on don't seem to working, it can't hurt to try it right?

P.S. I never had to get on the Thyroid medication. It's been a year and a half since I stopped working with Linda (I got pg and so we decided to stop treatment until after I stopped breastfeeding) and I feel great! I am even back to training to run a marathon in June 2008. In fact I feel better now than I have felt in years!

Good Luck!

Sandra
