and learned quite a few things.

1) I have been wearing some pretty old jeans (thirteen years plus)
2) the jeans I was wearing are "too boxy" on me
3) I am "dating myself"
4) and I'm wearing jeans that are TWO SIZES TOO BIG!!!

This was very enlightening!

The salesman was honest...and was just trying to help so I didn't get upset about it. However, I did feel like I was in an episode of "what not to wear". He went on to tell me the cut of jean I should be wearing should contour my hips and be sleeker on the thighs and have a boot cut to show off my "cute little fiture" (talk about making a girl feel good). My friend who was with me says "yes, turn this mama from boxy to foxy"

So he picked out a few styles (six) and lead me to the changing room. I have to say when I first put them on I thought: no way man....I can't even breath in these. But both he and my friend were telling me that the spandex in the jeans no a days makes you feel that way, but then it relaxes and the jeans are more comfortable. I opted for a larger size to feel the difference. So he gave me the size I came into the store wearing. I tried on those. They fit perfect (in my standards) but everyone else told me they were "ginormous" on me!!! They convinced me that the other pair that I felt was too tight, fit way better and completed my "assets"!!! I asked what the return policy was and he said that you can take them home and return them up to sixty days, WITH TAGS ON. But you can't wear them. SO I asked, "then how will I Know if I am comfortable wtih this style and fit if I don't wear them" and he said "out and about and they get dirty is considered wearing them". So last night (hee hee) I tucked the tags in my pockets and went out to dinner with my family in them. I have to say, they did loosen up a bit and they did feel great!

I just can't believe how badly I have dated myself all this time! It's crazy

I left there and went into a few more shops (by the way, the funny thing about this story is that I was shopping for dh!!!) and on the clearance rack at Gap I found two long sleeve *cute* T's for $3.97 each!!!! So I grabbed those!

I got home put them all on. The shirts were a bit snugger fit, but apparently not having more snugger fit clothing is what was been dating me!!! What is sad about this is I used to be an assistant manager in a retail store and I used to have all the latest fashions.....then again, I did have the cute, non child bearing body then....but still....if I think about that, that was over ten years ago!!!!!

Hubby agreed that I have now gone from boxy to foxy!!!!! w00t!!!

First off congrats on the new- SMALLER jeans! I am glad that he was honest in a nice way- nothing like a nice Stacey and Clinton to help you pick out some new clothes that fit (I would love to be on that show- but I would probably cry!)! I do have to agree that the spandex in pants when you first put them on- feel like you gained weight- but they do feel comfortable once they "stretch" out a bit (remember this everytime you put them on after washing them- I have to literally remind myself- these are uncomfortable now- BUT in a hour they will be super comfy!).

COngratulations again!

I'd rather be told that I need a smaller size than vice versa any day!

I am glad you had a good shopping expierence! Where did you go? I am only asking because how nice to have someone actually help you

I have been feeling pudgy myself and a couple of weeks ago I bought a pair of track pants that I attempted to put on this monring. My low self esteem said oh just grab a large (didnt try at the store) but I am happy to report I was literaly swimming in them. Back they will go!

Does anyone remember the SNL sketch about "Mom Jeans"? Were you wearing those, Christy?! If so, I'm glad you got a needed style update.

Let's just say that the reason I thought I had such a saggy butt was because my jeans were indicating I had a saggy butt!!!

The newer ones "hold" things in place now! Give it a little shape. Who would have thunk it? LOL

Great post, and congrats on your updated look! I can totally relate. I have been wearing clothes that are too big for me for years. All of my jeans used to be saggy in the butt. My dh used to make fun of me and ask me if I was wearing diapers. I wore the "fat jeans" that I bought a few months after I had my first son (he is 7 now) for way too long, even after I lost a bunch of weight. I hadn't lost all the weight I wanted to, and my jeans were comfy, so I just kept wearing them. Big mistake! When I finally lost the rest of the weight I pulled out a bin of hand me downs that my very stylish sister (with a huge clothing budget and a short attention span for her clothes) had given me last winter. All the pants and jeans were a size 4. I had been wearing 8s and 10s. I never in a million years would have even tried a 4. They all fit! And they looked SO much better than what I had been wearing. I was so excited! That is when I started ruthlessly going through my closet and giving away all of the bigger sizes and clothes that were baggy (even workout clothes). Then about a month ago she gave me several pairs of size 2 cords from J Crew in the cutest colors (they were too big for her - ugh!). I laughed at her and said no way, honey, and she forced me to try them. They fit too. They were very form fitting and I would have bought them looser for comfort, but dang, they looked good. So don't sell yourselves short, ladies. Work what you've got. You probably look way better than you think you do!!! My dh is SO much happier with the way I look now, and I am too.
