DH was diagnosed with transient hypertension last week and started on some med for it. He is also supposed to cut out caffiene and salt. His two main food groups were Mountain Dew and Chocolate! He has done a great job of cutting them out so far though. Anybody else have any tips or great snack ideas for those with HBP?

My brother has high blood pressure and he's only 28. His doc put him on the south beach diet to help him learn better eating habits. It wasn't about losing weight, it was more about the preparation of food, the good vs bad foods to eat and portion sizes. I would suggest reading that book and learn a little bit about the program. The first six chapters are AWESOME references to how our bodies digest food and it discusses common problems we have with our metabolism. The diet was created for people with high blood pressure and heart disease so it fits your situation perfectly. If you like the first six chapters and are ready to really make some changes, than I would suggest trying the full program (he lays out in the book) and see how it goes.
