I was just wondering if anyone is making any weight loss resolutions for next year? I make one every year and never stick to it. THis year needs to be different. I'm so out of shape. I hate washing clothes becasue my washer is in the basement and the steps our so hard for me. I get so out of breath going up and down them just once let alone several times to do the laundry. I would love to find something that I can stick with. Any suggestions would be so greatly appreciated. Thanks

Janice

My first and most obvious suggestion would be to make it a point to take those stairs wayyyy more than you have to. I lost 5 pounds in less than a month just from taking three flights of stairs up and down at work a few times a day, just because. Yes, it starts out hard, but you work your way up. If there's ten steps one way, start with making 3 trips up and down as fast as you can. Work your way up from there, daily. You can do it!! Plus, it's free!

This past year was the first year I ever kept my resolution- thanks to motivation of people on this board! If you are pressed for time- even trying to fit in 10 minutes of any type of exercise should help a little bit! I also agree with chopey's advice!

I honestly don't like the word "diet" to me it's like saying FAILURE. The word I would rather use, so that it's more permanent is LIFESTYLE CHANGE.

If you don't like how things are right now and it's because of the habits you have created, than you NEED to make NEW habits. So that to me is a lifestyle change..and it's permanent

1) incorporate exercise ~ thirty minutes of cardio three days a week to get your started
2) more veggies, less processed food
3) more time in the kitchen, less time online
4) stop buying junk: if it's not good for you it's NOT good for the kids, don't use them as your excuse. Cut out chips, cookies, soda, etc. Replace those "snacks" with healthier options so that when you get cravings, you are eating wisely too from teh choices you have stocked in your cabinets!
5) drink more water.......especially since you're upping your veggie intake

These are five simple steps to get you started.....once those steps become habits, we can add onto that!

I have been off track with the holidays. I am attending weight watchers but haven't been tracking and have pretty much been on a binge since Thanksgiving. Fortunately I have only gained 2 lbs. But the bloating makes it look and feel like a good 5, which when you are short is really noticable. So after the New Year. Holiday is over. The trash can is going to have a feast. All the junk will be gone. Back to tracking, and eating smarter. I have tried doing weight watchers without the meetings and I am always gung ho in the beginning then it fizzles away and I am back to my old eating ways. I have been going to the meeting through the holidays even though I dreaded the scale. I think I would have gained far more if I hadn't. I would highly suggest weight watchers.

Incorporate more protein and water into your day. Eating is the number one thing to change. There have been studies where two people will eat the exact same things, same content, same calories (for this example we'll say a bowl of oatmeal and some fruit--same size and everything). They'll add a small serving of protein to one person's meal and that will be the person to lose weight.

Water is key. It will make your skin glow and speed up your metabolism.

Only eat at the table while doing nothing else. We have programmed ourselves to need to eat while reading, watching tv, etc., etc., because we've done it before and now we feel an association between these activities and eating.

Little changes. I've done the big change thing and made it three months (with amazing success) but then totally fell off of the wagon. Like Christy says...lifestyle changes.

Weight loss would be one of my new years resolution. I'm tired of being fat. My first step needs to be to get rid of the Mountain Dew. Not sure how I'm going to do that because I've tried before but that needs to happen if I'm going to lose the weight. I'm pretty sure that is the source of my weight gain to begin with.

My other choice was to get pregnant because I always lose like 30 pounds when I'm pregnant, but dh is not too thrilled with that plan.

I'm thinking about joining a place like Curves.

I'm eating much better but I need more exercise.

mine is going to be to eat healthier. I don't really need to loose weight but I would like to cut down on my sugar intake. I am lovin some peppermint patties right now! I think adding more protein and less carbs will take some of those cravings away. I hope!
