I'm reading The Hiram Key which (I'm only like on the 3rd chapter) but it touches on these ideas - actually it goes a bit further (I think) and is saying the Jesus was two different people. And it also talks a lot about the Gnostic Gospels which have always interested me though I know very little about them.

But one thing I learned from this book, which I didn't know, was that the Muslim religion looks at Jesus as a prophet. I found that very interesting. I guess I'm always interested when I can find some common ground with the major religions!

Overall I'm struggling with The Hiram Key but need to plow through it because it is for a book club that my husband and I do together.

I always thought Sylvia Brown was a quack (psychics, anyone), and this just adds another card to the pile. She read the Da Vinci code too many times, I guess. Oh wait...the author of DaVinci Code is Dan Brown....hmmmmm..

I do beleive he was raised from the dead. His body was embalmed and back then when they embalmed a body it was usually done with about 80lbs of cloth and spices. Also in Matthew 27:62-66 the tomb was sealed and guards were placed outside the tomb to prevent his body from being taken so the disciples could not have stolen the body. I HTH!
She backs up her ideas with text from the gospels. I cant remember all the references, so I wont try, but the main thing was if Jesus did come back from the dead, then he left his body and died and then went to heaven and then came back to earth three days later right? well where was the body? He was a spirit and went to heaven as a spirit right? he didnt need his body then? but the body dissapeared becasue Jesus was not dead. He can back after three day, once his wounds healed and he asked the disciples to touch him and not be scared, how could they touch him if he was dead and a spirit?
The reasoning she has behind the guards was that they were in on the deal. Poncious pilot did not want to kill jesus, he believed he was who he said he was, but to keep Rome happy he staged the whole crucifction, The guards were thei to help aid Jesus and help him escape.
Also keep in mind the gospels were written about 300yrs after everything happened. these are not first hand accounts. These are stories passed down from people who saw Jesus. So some aspects of the story can change too.
She also mentioned that the church had a hand in covering the true story and making Jesus into the messiah he is portrayed. but that is another whole thread!

I can't answer all of your questions but yes Jesus was dead for 3 days. Then there was a huge earthquake and the stone was rolled away. He presented himself to the women after the angel told them of the resurrection. He then told the women to tell his disciples to meet him in Galilee. In Matthew 28 Verses 12-15 it tells of a meeting with the elders. They gave the soilders a large bribe to say that Jesus disciples came during the night while we were sleeping and stole his body. The guards accepted the bribe and the story spread among the Jews and it is still told today. I would like to see where Sylvia Brown gets her info from in the Bible. If you can find the Scriputre she is quoting I would like to see it. The ressurection is the Key to the Christian faith. It is the church's witness to the world. Jesus is more than just a man his is the son of God. Without this truth many people have died in vain including his disciples. I can be sure of my ressurection in heaven b/c of Jesus' death and ressurection on earth.

I got a good laugh out of that myself busymomof4.

I actually don't think it says an earthquake. I don't think it was explained how it moved it just did.

Also i would like to add that the Bible is how it is suppose to be. In Revelation it says that no one should add to this Book nor take away from it. So i say that let people write what they want....the Sylvia Browns of the world want their 15 minutes of fame......but we true Believers know that we are to read the Bible....the one that has been around for years and years.....and not look to those that are trying to add to it.

Also-many of the gospels were written by Jesus disciples or friends of them. Matthew, for example was written by Matthew(orginally named Levi). He was alive during this time. Also, Mark written by John Mark was not a disciple but accompanied Paul a disciple on his first missionary journey. Luke was written by Luke who was a doctor(Colossian 4:14). He was not a disciple but was a close friend to Paul also. He also wrote Acts. So yes they were there when these things happend. Jesus was crucifed in 30AD and Matthew was written in AD 60-65. Mark was written in AD 55-65 and Luke was written in AD 60. So the gosples were written around 30 years after the crucificition not 300. Maybe the 300 years she is referring to is when a translation of the Bible occured, I am not sure.

Matt. 28:2 . And behold , a severe earthquake had occurred , for an angel of the Lord descended from heaven and came and rolled away the stone and sat upon it.

Rakshanda - actually the Gospels were written by the Disciples. I guess it is hard to believe that so many of them would rather be killed than to denounce their faith if Jesus didn't TRULY die AND bodily rose from the dead. Many were given chances to denounce their faith before being killed and refused. They were witnesses. And honestly, it is hard for me to believe that Pontius Pilate really cared that much about Jesus. Jesus attracted HUGE crowds whereever he went by the time that He was crucified. How would Pilate think that he would get away with the "trick" - Pilate would have been in bigger trouble.

I am sure it depends on the translation but look up Matthew 28:2 And behold, a severe earthquake had occurred, for an angel of the Lord descended from and heaven and came and rolled asway the stone and sat upon it. This is in the King James version and the American Standard Bible. So yes it does say earthquake.
