It was not in the bibles I had as a child in school. My bibles just had the apostles returning to the tomb, and they found the stone rolled away, and the angel told them what happened.

The resurrection is written about many different times in the New Test. - The earthquake isn't necessarily mentioned each time.

Ohhhh yep i see it now. I was reading in John and not Matthew. Actually it says an angel rolled it away after the earthquake.

Excellent example of how the 4 gospels don't match each other.

Calimari - if you and I were both witnesses to an accident we probably wouldn't tell the exact same story. What catches your eye is different that what catches mine - we may be on different sides of the street etc etc. So even tho we are witness to the same event our stories will not match word for word, rather they give missing pieces to the other's story.

The importance is that they don't contradict each other. The Gospels are written by 4 different men from their perspectives. Matthew is written more for the Jews. John for the Gentiles. etc etc.

I think Jodie meant that she was reading the wrong gospel. I don't think she meant that the verse was incorrect. The post from myself and Jarred and Maggies mom both state that an angel of the Lord rolled the stone away.

When I lived in Indonesia my best friend was muslim and we would often have good natured debates about Jesus. She would ask 'how can you think that Jesus is the son of Allah?" my reply would be 'who better to teach then Allah's son..." It comes down to just what you believe, what you feel is right. I have heard those stories too and after visiting the vatican I will never trust them again, they have more secrets then the Brittish Royal Family , in my opinion the wisdom that came from Jesus could only come from someone with very intimate knowledge of the Lord.

1/ J&M mom - your accident example is excellent and a pretty obvious example of how eyewitness accounts work. Ask any cop. However, there are several areas of the gospels where the stories not only don't match each other, but do contradict each other. My point, of course, is if they are the "inspired word of God" that people claim them to be, and that any and all translations are accurate because God was involved in the translating, then you'd think they'd get their stories straight. There are several books out there that go over the contradictions in detail. A book that gives a few examples would be "God is Not Great - How Religion Ruins Everything" by a guy who's name escapes me at the moment.
2/ martin - I know she meant she was reading a "different" gospel/not the "wrong" one, or that the verse was incorrect or anything like that.
3/ Jodie - Well, duh. Of course it was coming. I'm nothing if not reliable.
