How many of you are bothered by the idea of removing "God" from the Pledge of Allegiance?

How do you feel about it?

I don't have an educated argument agaisnt removing it formed. I will say this is one reason we are sending our children to a Christian private school.

The "under God" was not part of the original pledge. I really have no problem with it.

You know, I was going to say something about tradition, blah, blah, blah ... but Happymom is right. It wasn't part of the orginal pledge.

Just giving people the scoop that aren't aware of the history.

I don't think everyone should be required to say it. I do think you can chose not to participate instead.

I am all for returning it to it's original version. I don't think "under God" should have been added (note post above) - especially without it being voted on by the people. Classic example of government trying to "force" religion on it's people, which THIS government is not supposed to do.

As a teacher we are required to say the pledge everyday at school. If I have a student who doesn't want to say the pledge, I don't require them to do it. It wasn't part of the original pledge, but it is part of the current pledge. The good thing about our country is that we have tons of choices and this is just one more choice.

I think they should keep it as is. There is in God we trust on all our money and the president says God Bless. and There is the song God bless america and in America the Beautiful there is a line that says God shed his grace on thee. God was in the star spangled banner too they just never sing the last part of it. I think they aren't forcing religion on anyone. I think thats a personal choice everyone makes, It hasn't been a problem for years why now? Just because God is enknowlegded doesn't mean they are saying believe or die. I think people are making too big of a deal about it. No one sits there and picks apart the Plegde. It was just something you said in school. So if you think we should change the pledge why not burn all the money too cause It has in God we Trust!

Because it wasn't originally there. If in God we trust was on all the money from the get-go, it's tradition from a few hundred years back. I don't care about songs as children are not required to sing them every day in school. But the family of the person who wrote the pledge wants it returned to what was written, and not tampered with. I don't think that the president should have just changed it willy-nilly without even putting it to a vote. His reasons were communist-era fear. It doesn't have to be "believe or die" - subtle influences are still influences, still indoctrinating children. If you want your child indoctrinated to believe in God, that's great. You do that at home, you do that at church. If you want it at school, send them to private school. But don't indoctrinate kids of parents who don't want them indoctrinated. It's as simple as that.
