When you're in a funk, you're not quite depressed but life seems just ho-hum. Nothing excites you. Maybe you're bored with the status quo. Does this ever happen to you and how do you break free from it?

GREAT question!!!!

I have these moments ALL THE TIME...part of it is hormonal, part of it is winter blahs, and part of it this deployment crap. It's all on me, all the time...and there are days i just want to climb back in bed and pull the covers over my head!

BUT instead I face the day, work out (as hard as I can on my most funkiest of days) and put a smile on. I do have my cry days...and they feel good and in my opinion are necessary!!

Pray.
Work out.
Cry.
Journal - write it all down with no editing first.

What if I do all these already and it still doesn't work? Just hope tomorrow is better?

I put in a good chick flick that is sure to enduce a good cry. "Message in a Bottle" does it to me everytime, and after i have had a good eye swelling, runny nose, ugly faced wheepy cry. I watch the comedy channel on tv and laugh my butt off, or watch " Tommy Boy", that movie can make me laugh every time i watch it!

I try to go on with my day as normally as possible. Maybe treat myself to something small. I like fast food personally Or I just get out anywhere by myself for a little bit.

Usually when I'm in a funk it's because I'm angry at myself about something or it's PMS. If I know it's PMS, I allow myself to feel it, live in it, and do something nice and nurturing for myself (have bath, buy a Starbucks, go to bed early, watch a TV show)

If I'm angry at myself, then I try to solve the issue about whatever I'm angry about. If I'm upset that I'm behind in housework, I set the timer and clean. If I've offended a friend, I call and apologize.

These are some of the other things I do when I'm in a funk.

Read Far Side comics. They always make me laugh.
Avoid the news (or anything depressing .. including sad posts)
Listen to my favourite music loudly on my ipod and sing out loud.
Watch my self talk.

When I'm in a funk I'm often way too self critical. I try to treat myself like I would treat a friend, give yourself permission to be down, nurture yourself, do something nice for yourself, and do or watch whatever it is that makes you laugh.

I like to plan! I plan for the future. I try to come up with fun projects like re-decorating a room in the house.

Time with friends is always helpful. It feels good to get out and have a laugh with some girl pals.

I start to day dream about how I can "look better". For instance a new hair cut or painting my finger nails puts me in a feel good mood.

Exercise always seems to help too.
