LOL...I got a little chuckle out of the title..Kind of a "How in the world can anyone forget to breathe?!" type thing.

BUT obviously it happens...Every single exercise DVD and video I own has the instructor reminding us "Don't forget to breathe!"

So how do you remember? If I try and stay aware of it it feels like it is taking away from my concentration of what i am doing (And if you have ever seen me on a stepper...DO NOT BREAK my concentration...it ain't pretty )

I notice it more now with heavy cardio (which I haven't been doing due to being sick) and weights. Yesterday I started doing just a little on my exercise ball and incorporated dumbbells and after a few big puffs of breath thought damn it, there I go again!

Any tips? And even if you don't let this serve as a public announcement reminder....Don't forget to breath during exercise

I know exactly what you are talking about. It does take some reminding, I agree.

What works for me, when I am NOT using a work out video, is to BREATHE OUT on the exertion and breathe in on the release.

For example:

If doing a bicep curl, breathe out when you are curling up....and breathe in when you are releasing back to the starting point.

Anything you do that requires EXERTION, breathe out....it will help with the umph factor of doing the entire rep!

Good luck!

I am right there with you. I always forget to breathe or hold my breath when doing an exercise that is "burning". For example, my abs - since my lower abs are so out of shape I always find that I'm holding my breath to get through it! When I find myself doing it, I start breathing (until I stop thinking about it again).

what helps me is when I'm doing a tape and the instructor reminds me to breathe
I'm better at breathing with weights, I am able to focus like Doozer suggests. With cardio....I'm pretty bad!
