I know this was posted before, but I don't remember the answers. My doctor recommended this, but of all the reviews I have been reading it doesn't sound that great. Do any of you have experience with this? I am scheduled for the shot next Thursday, but am seriously considering canceling. What about Seasonale? Has anyone been on this? Thank you so much!

I absolutely LOVED my Depo shot. I was on it for about 6 years. I had been on the pill but after I had a baby I kept spacing off and forgetting to take it so went on the Depo shot. The greatest thing for me was no period so no PMS!!! I had a very short period 24-36 hours a couple of times a year and that was it. It does take your body a few months to get used to it so if you can get through the first few months (lots of bleeding for most women) it can get much better. Of course when I became single last year, I no longer had a need for regular bc so discussed options with my doctor. He wanted me off the Depo because there is some research that prolonged use - over 5 years - he said, can lead to bone density problems. I'm no medical expert but I know I loved my Depo. I've had horrible PMS since I stopped taking it and would go on it again if my doctor would let me, even though I don't need it for bc.

Obviously, there's good and bad in all medications so you'll have to figure out what is best for you.

It was not great for me. The first shot I was fine but then after the second I started breaking out really bad. I also gained weight. It really just depends on your body. I also always forget to take the pill so that was out. Maybe the patch? That's only once a week you have to remember and I think you have some flexibilty. I liked that. But since I'm done with babies I got an IUD. It's awesome.

Oh where can I start....

Weight gain
Lowered libido--like REALLY low
unbelieveable moody behavior

I just was not myself AT ALL

no problem before and after I quit--I was only on it for 6 months.

It does affect different people differently I guess

I am currently considering what birth control to use for myself as well...I just had a baby. At my 4 week appointment with the doctor he asked what type of birth control I was going to use for now. We discussed my options...After my ds was born I was on Depo and I loved it!! Once you got past the initial spotting, you rarely had a period and what woman doesn't love that!!?? However, I mentioned it to my doctor that I was considering the shot again and he said that I can go on the shot, however, you cannot be on it longer than 2 years because it causes bone density. He seemed to be talking me out of it...

Then he mentioned to me that I should consider an IUD. It sounds great. You only have to worry about birth control once every 5 years. Anyone have their 2 cents on this type of birth control? I am seriously considering this because we believe we are done having children, but what if we are not? This is supposedly 99.9% accurate.

Any thoughts on this type of birth control as well?

I had some medical problems back in 2002 and was being seen by a team of 4 gyn specialists. Until we moved last year, I had been seeing the same doctors and all 4 were against Depo. They aren't holistic or alternative, but they said that the shot interferred with a womans normal period and hormone cycle and barring medical problems, a woman should have as normal a period as possible.
I don't have to worry about my . anymore , just thought I'd mention what my docs told me.

I had an IUD placed after the birth of my second son, last July. I absolutely LOVE it. I have only had three very short, very light periods in the past year. The only thing I have to worry about is checking for a string once a month, similar to checking a tampon string, to ensure placement. The only problem I have encountered is that the string length had to be adjusted. Sorry if this is TMI, but my OB left the string to long which caused my husban a bit of pain.

I'm sorry if I offend anyone by mentioning this but the Catholic Church does consider the IUD a form of abortion due to the fact that it stops implantation, not fertilization.
