Everbody seems to be talking about stocking up and saving money and preparing for circumstances. Don't you think we should depend more on God and less on what we can do to prepare? Put it in his hands and let him be our guide? I think that is why our country is in the state it is in because it depended on money and circumstances more than God. JMHO

I agree to put things in God's hands but not everyone feels the same way as we do. I know that not everyone shares the same beliefs. As the saying goes if you have the faith of a mustard seed you can move mountains but you better have a shovel in your hand. It really does come down to what God wants but at the same time you have to prepare yourself as well. This is a touchy subject for some people as there are many on here that have different beliefs. Everyone has that right and I hope this doesnt become a religious debate. I respect everyones beliefs even if mine are different.

Prov 31 talks about the wise woman, it says she has no fear of the winter because she has already prepared for it, it says she looks for bargains and works hard to take care of her family, being diligent with her finances etc.

I totally agree we should not fear the future, but we need to practice with wisdom, if we know things are going to get rough, we should prepare (for the winter) so to speak.

In my mind, I read the signs of what is going on, buy accordingly, and trust God and not become fearful.

I agree that we need to lean on God. But that doesn't mean we don't take some precautions. It is not that I think the food will run out, but the prices will be going up, so why not buy a little extra to save some money in the long run. I will only buy enough that will fit in my cupboards. I am not going to store food in my closet or under my bed.
And I don't think this post was meant as a religious debate. I was guessing the original poster was talking about those of us that believe in God. If you don't believe in God, obviously, you are not going to rely on him. Of course this doesn't mean all those who don't believe in God are panicking and stocking up. I am sure there is a balance of people on all sides that aren't too worried.
I hope my babbling makes sense to someone.

I wasnt saying it was a religious debate or that the op was trying to make it one just saying I hope it doesnt become one. I was mearly pointing out that not everyone shares the same beliefs here.

I don't think that I fear the future because I rely on God to guide me through it but I think people trying to be prepaired and "getting things ready or stocking up" IS God guiding them!

No, I don't. And I'm not speaking from the atheist perspective. I had many years of religious education from nuns who I highly respect; while some things might be said to be left in God's hands, (generally things we could do nothing about - such as imminent death by disease) the idea to not DO anything to help yourself in difficult times was never promoted. We were all to use the gifts given to us, we were to use our gifts to help others. Simply relying on a god to get us through without doing anything actively to get out of a bad situation is just not an option.

I believe God did provide when he gave us two hands, two legs, and a brain to figure it out.

god told noah it would rain ( it had never rained before ) did noah just sit back? no, he prepared....

God gave us a brain to use, and as mel said two arms and legs to use.

I do however believe that people think they can weave their way around God with their money and stuff....
