Hi Ladies...I ran my 2nd ever triathlon yesterday and it went great!!
Goal #1--finish (I did it!)
Goal #2--finish without walking or stopping (I did it!)
Goal #3--finish in less than 2 hours total (I did it in 1 hour 58 minutes!!!)

So I am feeling pretty good about myself about now...I am realistic though and realize that I am still of an "average or above" body size...which is part of my fitness goal -- key word is fitness/health goal not a weight or size goal. I have dramatically increased my physical activity in the last 2 months and have slightly altered my eating (which could use lots of improvement) and have lost a few lbs but gained lots of endurance...

anyway, I had a Body analysis done this AM at the YMCA...it involves weight, several measurments and the caliber for skinfold in several places...and let's just say I am "off the charts" in a not so good kind of way! I am a somewhat realistic person in that I didn't expect a miracle or for the fitness director to say, wow your body fat is low! But I wasn't prepared to be off the charts either...so I am feeling a little down about that....

it is kinda weird to be feeling great about meeting my goals and down about being a third of body fat....good news is I am headed in the right direction and want to become more healthy...for me and for my family but I don't think my 12/14 pants size is crazy big either...hmmm...something to ponder. Makes me wonder about the statistics in the US...are we accepting our larger bodies and doing less about it or are we lowering the accepted weight/body size levels?

just needed to put that out there to you all...I'll be frequenting these boards more in the future---I need to support! Thanks for listening!

Congratulations on meeting your triathalon goals. That is so awesome

As for the body analysis, keep in mind that these things are not extrememly accurate. Those doing the skin fold calculations can be doing it wrong. I have seen that happen many a time. Instead, focus on how your are feeling and your overall health. It sounds to me like you are doing great!, heck, I can't even think of doing a triathalon .

GIRL!!! I am so proud of you! You accomplished so much in just ONE day. All the long hours, hard work and determination pulled you through and good for you for completing it in such a GREAT time!

If I were you, I would try to not get too carried away with the recent report you received. I think if you weren't doing anything about it, you should worry but because you have committed yourself to a healthier lifestyle you are well on your way of improving any supposed bad measurement. I think it's smart of you to be realistic about it and realize that you are very active and eating well. You're doing everything right. I think in time those measurements will also reflect your progress and if you can, try NOT to let them deflate your motivation!

Again congrats on such an awesome accomplishment! We're so proud of you and you are such an inspiration to us!

Thanks girls!

I think I just needed a day to adjust to that info...I am not dwelling on it, but it is an eye opener to a few things...like the trainer gave me a few tips such as where my target heart rate should be when I work out, that I should bump my 30 minute cardio workout up to a 40 minute workout...she is right I won't notice much time difference and hopefully the effect will be better. I am actually in a fairly good "mental" place, I am healthier than I have been in years (despite what it says on paper) and that is really something to be proud of!

My DH and I are going to register for another "sprint" triathlon in July this has an open water swim (I have only done the swim in a pool and open water will be a real challenge to say the least!) and we'll do another in late Sept. So I think my training and our events will lead to a healthier me without the worries or the measurments.

thanks for letting me be happy and sad at teh same time yesterday! You guys are great...I should have been positing here long ago!

WAY TO GO!!! You are such an inspiration! Do not listen to to what is on paper - you are healthy and what is even more important is that you feel that and you recognize that you are at your healthiest!
Keep up your hard work!!!

This is what I"m working on. I think bumping up my cardio from 30 to eventually 50 minutes will make a huge difference for me.

I'm glad you are feeling better about it!!
