Does anyone think that birth control pills cause weight gain? I have been on the pill for 5 years now, ever since my 2nd daughter's been born. My mom says that they do cause you to gain weight and increase your appetite. I need to lose weight, and am wondering if this is a contributor. I really would like to use another form of birth control but don't know what. Does anyone else use the pill and think they have gained weight from it?

I have been on the pill for 12 yrs. I don't think that is the factor of my weight gain. With me I just think it is age.
I am getting ready to do Essure, which is a permanent form of birth control, since I plan on not having anymore children.

I know it is a possibility. That was one of the things the dr said to me about the depo provera shot - that there are some women who gain weight once they go on it. (which I knew someone that specifically happened to)

When I was on them in my twenties, I gained alot of weight (15 lbs) and it was directly related to the pills. I also found out that the pill I was on was banned in England because of causing blood clots so frequently Now I am all natural and will never put any other chemicals in my body unless it is life-threatening issue. I do NFP and have learned alot about my cycles, moods and body

My dr. SWEARS to this day that no form of birth control is DIRECTLY related to weight gain. I'm like, uhhh dur, it's directly related to my APPETITE THOUGH!!!! I was on the shot for around 3 years, or so. And in those three years, I gained 30 -40 pounds!!! Before the shot, i weighed anywhere from 110-120!!!!! So, now I'm finally losing all that weight, going from jsut over 150 to 130, but now back to 135 and steady. But I stopped taking the shot just over 2 years ago.
So, Yes, birth control can cause weight gain, I'm a prime example!
