My DH and I (along with my ever dieting MIL & FIL and SIL) are all trying to work together to get healthy. I made a big deal out of language and talk because I don't want my girls (ages 8, 5, 4, & baby) hearing the words "weight loss, fat, diet, etc" thrown around...these to me are not nice words and let's be honest as women we are criticized far too much for our appearance, and yet I think it is important we all know that fruit is a healthy choice and cookies are a sometimes food.
OK that said here is my issue...
My DH and I are trying to eat healthy, but we have our peaks and valleys. My oldest DD (age 8) is far from over weightor underweight, but is a healthy kid. She does not love to "exercise" but seems to like to play tag and stuff --which is how I think kids should get their exercise. But recently she and I have been talking about "healthy" and "sometimes" food choices. Which lead into a body discussion, I told her I thought she has a perfect 8 year old body and and that she is very healthy...she replied that she doesn't think so and often tries to hold her tummy in. I was so sad to hear this, she is so beautiful and so young...what can I do to encourage health and positive self image?
