Making goals is tough. It was for me. I made a goal to run and complete a halr marathon this spring and failed to finish my training. I have been hanging my head ever since. But I don't think I have given up on that idea just yet. I just think I needed more time. So for me, I am making smaller goals, leading up to a larger one. I am comfortable running 5K, so I may add an 8k then 10K road race to my goals list before attacking a half marathon. So for now, I will be focusing on training for an 8K.

Now the next task is to literally map out a distance from your door equal to half the distance of your short term goal. But the kicker is, I want you to find TWO routes. I don't know about you, but I get sick of the same thing. I get bored with repetition...so I am going to map out TWO routes that will lead me 4K away from the house, and then 4K back. Not easy. This will take some time. So take your time and if you can, be creative so you can change it up.

Once we have our maps/routes figured out, we can move on. Check in here when you have completed this assignment.

I wish I was able to run outside from my house 1) My husband leaves at 4am during the week. 2) I live on a busy rural road with no shoulder. Having said that, I will be on the treadmill most of the time.

I only have one choice when we are staying at the river, run on the towpath. I love running next to the river.

My short term goal is an 8k. I started Gateway to 8k but didn't like the walking portions. I felt like I was backtracking and letting my body cheat. Right now, I'm up to a 42 minute, 4 mile.

I think my goal will also be an 8k. I am at 3 miles now and have my first 5k race next Saturday. After that I think I will start the gateway to 8k and see how that goes. I just think I need more guidance rather than doing it on my own. I know, Linda, you decided to do it on your own and I think you are doing awsome (already at 4 miles and going for the 5 soon)! I also will be on the treadmill most days since it is dark when I get up and I am a big chicken to run outside in the dark by myself. I might have to find some kind of inspiring poster to look at. All I have now is 2 white walls. It gets boring real quick!
We can do this, together!

I only have 2 routes, the track and the gravel road that runs by the corn fields and horse pastures . There really is no where else to run, unless I want to run on a busy road which I refuse to do because some morons drove at my dh when he went running there . Once we move I'll have many, many more options .

My goal is to increase my mileage right now - I am comfortable doing 3.5 miles, so I want to go up to 4 miles and then 5 and so on. By November I want to be able to run the Turkey Trot as a 10K.
I will map out 2 routes today and post back.

Great!

For those of you who don't have many "route" options, choose a route that will at least take you half the distance you want to go. If you are training for an 8K, find a route you can take to get you 4Ks away......and map it out.
Check back in!

I have 2 routes. I'm trying to figure something else out too. It's now about 85 when I go running at 6am. I don't have a treadmill or room for one. I'm trying to figure out how I can go to the gym but dh will be gone a lot this summer so I won't have anyone to watch the baby. I will keep brainstorming and figure something out
